She began her early oil painting lessons as a child at a local artist’s farm in rural New Jersey and continued her studies at Moravian, a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania (recently turned University). Through her love of art, she discovered art conservation and undertook the long journey required to become a conservator, eventually earning a Master of Science in Art Conservation from Winterthur Museum/University of Delaware, and now works as a painting conservator in Baltimore.Pamela is inspired by the close study of the various methods and materials used by centuries of painters and by observing the natural world around her. She paints mostly with oils or gouache, and especially enjoys painting landscapes outdoors ‘en plein air’. She loves the thrill of being immersed in the landscape, observing and recording sensations of light, atmosphere, and mood through paint. Drawing from observation skills developed as a science teacher and parent, Coakley delights in exploring light and color while creating joyful expressions of what she sees. Inspired by nature and stories of its relationship to humanity, she strives to produce work that is authentic, but not photographic in detail. There is a balance, she believes, where authenticity is achieved in the choice of details captured or omitted. The search for that balance, arriving at it, and searching again, is paramount to her artistic journey. 2023 Suolk Plein Air Festival’s Best in Show Award winner. www.coakleybrown.comLisa BurgerLentz Media, Pennsylvania Lisa is a painter and printmaker. Life has taken her from Virginia, where she grew up, to the west coast and back again, encountering endless beautiful scenes that constantly inspire her. Plein Air painting is her passion and being able to express the great outdoors in her unique style is her pleasure. www.debradartez.comKaren Lee CrenshawJacksonville, North CarolinaA sense of place. That is the goal of Karen’s landscape paintings, for the viewer to “see” what she sees and to feel that is a place they have been or would like to visit. Plein air painting inspires her to capture the quality of the light that sets o that connection. Many of her paintings depict the pinkish-blue tones of early morning light or the amber tones of late afternoon. Alex Eisenzopf Clyde, North CarolinaA serial sketcher throughout school, Alex got his rst formal instruction at a local community college, eventually transferring to the Pratt Institute in New York City. The atmosphere was vibrant and competitive, but light on instruction. He learned much from the work of other students until the money ran out. Vassar was free but had a small art program. He wanted to concentrate on philosophy, justifying the move despite the art program. A saving grace was Vassar’s rst-rate art collection and Art History department. He spent the years since college working in commercial art, illustration and product design, the last two years in ne art, attending plein air events and building a body of work. His rst love is drawing, which undergirds all his work. “Drawing adds structure and dynamism. But what drives me is art with meaning- using my mind to recreate something from life or create something from nothing. It’s the challenge that makes art worth doing.” www.alexeisenzopf.com, IG: eisenzopneart, FB: Alex EisenzopfCalina Franzosa Alexandria , VirginiaCalina was born in Santa Cruz, California. In 2016, Calina began painting again, creating drawings and oil paintings, in her studio and en Plein Air. She loves to travel both internationally and around the United States. After a fullling career as an art educator, Laura continues to mentor emerging artists by hosting workshops in New York, Massachusetts, Florida and abroad. Workshop experiences allow Laura to paint and teach others about the Plein Air experience. Her work spans a variety of medium including pastel, oils and encaustics. Laura has been juried and invited to participate in Plein Air events throughout the United States- receiving numerous awards. www.laurambianco.comJohn is a Plein Air artist who lives in the small coastal community on the Chesapeake Bay called East Beach (Norfolk, VA). His paintings often depict the rhythmic movement of water, ever changing reections of light and color, and the feelings of a salty atmosphere and eortless wellbeing. A native of the Mission San Jose district of California, and a frequent traveler to the Georgia O’Keee area of Northern New Mexico, John’s paintings also reect the sentient nature of structures and landscapes, with awareness brought to bear in his meaningful cloud formations. Picturesque marine and seascapes, tranquil morning haze, contemplative reections, and endless skies are all brought to life with a narrative that tends to draw one into his experience. www.johnmeyersart.comJohn MeyersNorfolk, Virginia

As a painter, he is inspired by the beauty and power of the landscape. Inuenced by the impressionist style, he tries to capture the light and atmosphere of the natural world as an expression of color. Short impasto brush strokes are used to capture the essence of his subject rather than details. With the use of brushwork and broken color, he creates an illusion of movement and spontaneity with emphasis on the eect of the whole scene. He works mostly en Plein Air, not copying nature but interpreting its beauty. There is nothing more rewarding than painting outdoors, he says. 2023 Suolk Plein Air Festival Best Cityscape Award winner. www.ericthingstad.com
Rokhaya WaringClyde, North CarolinaRaised in Massachusetts with roots in France, Waring’s homeschool days included milking goats, playing violin, and camping across America in a 1954 GMC bus. Foremost in her education was daily drawing from nature. This practice, instilled by her mother- once a student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts- created vibrant memories and laid the foundation for her technique. There was the study of Art History (BA Princeton ’88), regular trips to Art museums, and twenty formative years in Provence painting hay rolls and poppy elds while using her old Renault 18 as an easel and shield against the mistral wind... Without a doubt, working en Plein Air is her rst love. Waring has shown in over 150 shows in the United States and abroad and has participated and garnered awards in numerous Plein Air Events. She lives in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina with her artist husband and two whippets. www.rokhaya.comTerry Wylie Norfolk, VirginiaTerry is a ne artist from San Antonio, Texas who has spent 30 years in the United States Navy, sailing the seas and oceans of the world.
