LEAD helpsstudents...Transition to SCUEligibilityAll first-generation college students areeligible to participate. "First-generation college"means that neither of your parents havecompleted a 4-year degree in the US or abroad.Being a first-generation college student is thesole criteria to participate in LEAD. As a result,participants are from a variety of backgrounds,with diverse interests, academic experiences, andtalents.LEAD Week: Participate in anorientation the week before college tostart making friends and acclimatingto campusLEAD Seminars: Take introductorycourses to learn more about campusresources and leadershipopportunitiesPeer Mentoring: Meet regularly with acurrent LEAD Scholar and participatein fun activities with a mentoringgroup"While facing challenges both socially andacademically early on, LEAD was an unbelievablesupport system that helped me grow confident andsuccessful as a student by providing me with tons ofresources showing me how to navigate college. Thesupport I received from LEAD staff inspired me to findways I could give back to my community and use theknowledge I had gained to support other first-genstudents at SCU."Thrive at SCUOngoing Advising: Gain support fromthe LEAD staff throughout collegeLeadership Opportunities: Become aLEAD Peer Mentor, Peer Educator, orProgramming Board MemberFunding: Obtain funding forscholarships, emergency expenses,and fellowships such as stipends forunpaid internships, undergraduateresearch, study abroad and otheropportunitiesTransition into Career Andre C.Class of 2022Vocational Exploration: Prepare for lifeafter graduation with careerexploration courses, site visits, andother opportunitiesAlumni Engagement: Aftergraduation, mentor current studentsand reconnect through LEAD alumniprofessional development and socialeventsAll LEAD Scholars:Participate in LEAD WeekTake English 1 & 2. Transfer studentsare exempt if they have fulfilled theCritical Thinking & Writing (CTW)requirementTake the LEAD Seminar course2 courses for first-year studentsand 1 for transfer studentsAre pre-enrolled in other courses thatfulfill your majorLive in one of the 5 LEAD designatedResidential Learning Communities(RLCs) or be a member of one, ifcommutingMeet with their Peer Mentor &Mentoring Group once per quarter
