Welcome CCSD BELIEF STATEMENTWe believe that every child has an inherent right to an education and that allchildren can learn. The school’s curriculum must be broad-based in order toprepare students for college and vocational objectives. We recognize thatstudents have differences in culture, academic abilities, and physical skills. The school’s curriculum must be designed to provide successful experiencesfor all students while accommodating individual and cultural differences. Theschool must structure programs to meet our world's changing demands andthe needs of our world so students and staff can be prepared to make sounddecisions concerning student academic and social needs. We believe that five qualities of moral character are fundamental to humanconduct: INTEGRITY, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURAGE, and JUSTICE.The other important character traits build on and gain strength from these. Therefore, these five must be studied, exemplified, praised, and developed, not only in students but also among staff, in school and out, by all of us.INTEGRITY means, “to thine own self be true, and thou canst not then be falseto any man”; it is the ability to be aware of and support what you believe andnot change that belief just to “go along”. RESPECT refers to self and to others,to life around us, and to the laws which make communities work. Each of usdeserves to be taken seriously. RESPONSIBILITY means we are responsible forour own actions and the effects they have on others and ourselves. COURAGErefers to the fact that when we face moral or physical dangers, we have thestrength to face them, rather than deny those dangers. Finally, JUSTICErequires fairness to others as to one’s self, balancing praise and blame inaccordance with one’s actions.PHILOSOPHY CONTINUE 8

ATHLETIC PARTICIPATIONThe Shadow Ridge community, school staff, and administration are proud of theschool’s entire sports program. Shadow Ridge students are encouraged to try outfor any and all of our various athletic teams. We recognize that there are timeswhen students do not make the final cut for participation on a team of their choice. We encourage those students to try out for the team again during the next year ortry out for a different team. Our goal at SRHS is to develop athletes who serve asrole models for their classmates as well as the younger members of the ShadowRidge Community. Athletes are reminded that while participating in any athleticprogram, participating in the classroom, and while in the community at large, theyare representatives of SRHS. Their behavior and sportsmanship should be beyondreproach at all times. Athletic & Activities Participation PARTICIPATION IN ATHLETICS ELIGIBILITYA student who participates in cheerleading/dance or an athletic sport mustmaintain a passing academic grade in all courses during the sports season.Progress will be checked once every three (3) weeks. If an athlete on thetraditional eligibility track receives a failing grade at the three-week check, thestudent will be placed on probation for one week. On the Friday of theprobationary week, if there is still a failing grade, that student will be declaredineligible the following Monday through Saturday. Students declared ineligibleafter probationary status will be checked weekly until they become eligible. Whena student is declared eligible, the student will be checked again at the regular 3week checking period. Athletic & Activities Participation Sports SeasonsThree-week checks should be calculated as a cumulative quarter grade. Acumulative “F” grade does not mean an “F” for the week. A three-week checkshould reflect the student’s academic status from the beginning of the quarter tothe date of the grade check.Individual Coaches may also have program eligibility guidelines in addition to thedistrict requirements. Please make sure you check with your coach. Studentsshould contact the Athletic Office at extension 4200 for additional information.18

Participation conflicts between SchoolSanctioned Activities and AthleticsRetrieved from the 2025-2026 CCSD Athletic Department Coaches Manual. Thereare times when students simultaneously participate in an organized sport and aperforming group. Conflicts occasionally arise when practice and regularlyscheduled events take place concurrently. Although every attempt will be made tokeep such scheduling conflicts to a minimum, the following guidelines will befollowed:When a practice or rehearsal and an event are scheduled simultaneously, theevent takes precedence. When two events are scheduled simultaneously, the student may select theevent in which he/she will participate. He/She should make the decision, whenever possible, at least seven days in advance. When two practices or rehearsals are scheduled simultaneously, the studentmay select the event in which he/she will participate.Under no circumstances will a student be penalized for his/her decision. Classgrades are not to be lowered or unreasonable make-up work required, thestudent will not be benched nor will the student’s ability to earn a letter beimpaired because of their decision. In case of a disagreement among the parties concerned, the matter should bereferred to the administrator(s) in charge for a solution.Outside teams, such as American Legion, little league baseball, springbasketball, etc. have no bearing on Shadow Ridge School athletics. Schoolpractice and contests have a priority,Under no circumstances should a coach assume that the student is aware of theabove rules. The rule is included in the Student Athletic Handbook and should becovered by all participants. When excusing a student from practice or an event, the coach should make it very clear to the athlete as to what will be expected ofthe athlete when he/she returns: i.e., such as participation, practice, make-up, etc.Athletic & Activities Participation 19
