GUARANTORS The opening of this week’s פרשה finds יהודה confronting יוסף in his battle to ensure that בנימין returns to יעקב . When explaining to יוסף why he, from all his brothers, is taking the lead in defending יהודה ,בנימין states: כי עבדך ערב את הנער ואיך אעלה אל אבי והנער איננו אתי , “Your servant is the guarantor of the young lad, and how will I face my father if the boy is not with me?” 3:57 PM December 22, 2017 ד‘ טבת תשע‘‘ח פרשת ויגש · December 24– Early dismissal at 11:30 am due to Rebbeim faculty meeting. · December 28– Asarah B’Teves—special dismissal grades 5G - 8G 12:00 noon, grades 6-B 12:30 pm · January 1—Early dismissal for Preschool and grades 1G-8G at 11:50 am, dismissal for grades 1B-8B at 12:00 noon Binyamin, he is saying, is my responsibility. I promised my father that I will make sure Binyamin returns unscathed. The מפרשים homiletically explain this פסוק as a critical חינוך directive that parents and educators must constantly evaluate themselves against. We are the guarantors for our children. The רבש״ע bentches us with the gift of progeny, and invests us with the responsibility to provide them with the proper חינוך , and to raise them with an appreciation for Torah values and good character. Parents and educators must ask themselves: ואיך אעלה אל אבי והנער איננו אתי , If I am the guarantor for this great gift that Hashem bestowed upon me, how will I be able to face my heavenly father if the child is not with me? How will I be able to face the רבש״ע if I haven’t done my utmost to ensure that my child remains with me on the דרך הישר ? May we all be זוכה to be מחנך our children properly, and only see nachas from them. גוט שבת Rabbi Ochs · The Torah Academy Gala Auction was a major success.
