We will be hiring a 5th Coordinator to meet the demands of expansion, and will be offering new programs this year. If you completed the Leisure Needs Assessment Survey, then you played a huge part in the upcoming expansion of existing programs and brand new programs this year. In this brochure you will find, drum roll……FUN events (Families Unwinding & Networking), Lindy Hop (Free Dance Workshop), Remove the Limits (Triathlon Program), and a Leisure Education and Awareness class called LIFE (Leisure Is For Everyone). Embracing eco-friendly practices, our agency is going green in 2024! Beginning this fall, the Leisure Times Brochure will only be distributed digitally via email. If you do not have a computer or an internet service provider, we can discuss options and community resources with you, so you can begin registering online. As always, let’s continue to make extraordinary and memorable experiences this summer! Rhonda Hembree, Director of Leisure Services Summer Teen Project Neighborhood Experiences in the City is Now Acccepting Applications! Neighborhood Experiences serves young people aged 13 to 20 in St. Louis City. The 8-week project supports young adults Monday through Friday (9 am - 4 pm) as they gain employment, independent living skills, build friendships, develop professional networks, and explore opportunities in the community. The Leisure Services Department is looking for fun, creative, and energetic seasonal staff to work in our Neighborhood Experiences summer teen project. Staff will support teens at volunteer sites and in community activities. Hours are Monday – Friday, 9 am – 4 pm, June 3 to August 2, 2024. The Recreation Council of Greater St. Louis not only provides information and referral services, they also offer voucher services to assist individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in accessing funding for leisure and recreation programs. The Recreation Council’s voucher funding programs, provide financial assistance to persons with documented intellectual and developmental disabilities living in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and St. Charles County who enroll in recreation programs. These funds help with transportation, hotel and activity expenses. A Huge Thank You to the Organizations and Businesses that Believe and Support the St. Louis Arc’s Leisure Services Programs! We are also proud to announce the Neighborhood Experiences Project received a grant for $5,000 from The Big Lots Foundation (#BigLotsCares). Please support your local Big Lots stores, which is passionate about working hard to strengthen communities. The St. Louis Arc is honored to have received renewed support from the Missouri Department of Economic Development for Youth Opportunity Programs. These funds help teens succeed by connecting them to opportunities that develop their creativity, expand their education, and prepare them for career success. Arc Payment Options: The Arc Accepts all major Credit Cards, Checks & E-checks. Please do not use the Escrow payment unless you are an individual who lives in a St. Louis Arc residential home. This helps us with pre-program documentation that we need to prepare prior to the start of our programs. Leisure Programs Leisure Is For Everyone - A Leisure LIFEstyle Course (ages 18 & older) Leisure LIFEstyle course is an educational and interactive class that provides basic skills to work towards a well-rounded leisure lifestyle. We will discover what you like to do, practice goal-setting, and most importantly, learn how to plan for fun! Participants will also have an opportunity to learn more about Leisure Services at St. Louis Arc and other community resources. Immerse yourself in a supportive community, taught by seasoned triathletes and volunteers who share your passion for swimming, cycling, and running. This program provides a motivating environment to enhance your skills, push past your limits, and foster lasting friendships as we train for the Tour de Kirkwood on July 28. Practices will be held on Saturday mornings from June to the end of July. Before we start we will schedule a meet and greet to discuss the program details. No refunds will be made after that time. Please see mailing address at the bottom of the registration form for mailing instructions. Programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Only paid registrants will be accepted. Confirmations will be sent two weeks prior to the start of the program. Weather Cancellation Procedures In the event of inclement weather, the Leisure Services Department will make decisions about the program status two hours prior to program starting time. Weather cancellations may include programs cancelled due to a heat index of 97° or above, or when temperatures dip below 10° for an extended Financial Assistance Please go to the St. Louis Arc website and download a financial assistance form prior to registering for a program and email form to Rhonda Hembree at rhembree@slarc.org. Or call Rhonda at 314-817-2245 to receive the financial assistance form via email. Additional Information Rules of acceptance and participation in our programs are the same for everyone, without regard to race, color, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, age, or ability. If you need accommodations to participate fully, please indicate your specific accommodations on the registration form. The participant acknowledges that she/he/they is in good health and able to participate in all activities of the program.
