St Joseph s Boys School Achievement for All POLICY ON DISPLAYS Preamble 1 1 The quality of the display work within a school has much to say about the values and ethos of our school A substantial amount of money has been invested to provide notice boards for both Departments and pupils e g School Council on the corridors to supplement those in the classrooms 2 1 It is expected that these displays will be attractive and will give due consideration to the following principles That the visual appearance of the school contributes to its image and ethos That the displays in the public areas of the school should reflect its life work and values That the displays should help inform visitors parents teaching staff governors and pupils about the nature standards and ethos of the educational provision in the library for a particular age range or pupil group That the displays in question should be educative informative interactive and visually stimulating not only for the School s population but also for its numerous visitors That such displays may have a positive effect on pupils interest and motivation That pupils and others tend to respect and to look after an environment that has a pleasant orderly and cared for appearance and one that they or their peers have helped to create Displays should be related to the recent current and impending learning of pupils and on occasions it may be focused on some topical personality matter or issue concerned with the relevant subject in the locality or in general Displays should involve the children s ideas Displays may be in the form of posters newspaper or magazine cuttings or details of radio or television programmes or publications etc pertaining to a variety of matters or issues of current concern Displays should be labelled clearly to indicate the learning with which the whole display or individual items within it are concerned Displays should be neat and tidy and well arranged 2

3 1 3 2 Displays should be well maintained and modified or dismantled when they have run their educational course rather than being allowed to age or disintegrate Displays should be made secure when any valuable items are included at those times when the Library a room or the School premises generally are at their most vulnerable Displays may often be from different countries and cultures or illustrations of these in connection with various environments local national and international Displays to show the entire range of resources available in the School Library Displays to act as teaching and learning aids to support teaching staff and the Curriculum While some displays may be mounted specifically as teaching and learning aids teachers are encouraged to use any display or any item within a display in that capacity To ensure that these principles are applied displays should be regularly mounted and changed pupils should be encouraged to participate in this work themselves under supervision Displays may be Pupils own work contributions from all abilities Special whole school displays e g for anti bullying week Published advertising material posters Material circulated by different organisations e g Jobskills Childline Publication of student success awards and achievements Responsibility for Displays lies with Classroom teachers HODs HOY HOS and specific area co ordinators e g Health Education Health and Safety Primary School Links etc and will be overseen by Senior Teacher coordinating Public Relations 3
