Free library membership for everyone: This entitles students, familiesand teachers to avail of our facilities free of charge. We are very happy towelcome everyone, whether it’s for research, class visits or a plannedevent like an author visit or a workshop. Requests: It is now free to request a book from any public library inIreland. There are over 12 million items to choose from.Teacher card: This card entitles teachers to borrow up to 30 books at atime. The lending period is 3 months.Class visits: If you wish to bring a class to the library, please get in touchwith your local library. The class can then borrow books and get to knowthe library.Reading resources and supports: Offaly Libraries has an extensivecollection of material, both print and online, suitable for all reading stages. We have an array of non-fiction books to help with project work andstudy. Programming and events: Offaly Libraries provide ongoing libraryprogrammes throughout the year to encourage and support the curiousminds of our younger community members.No more fines: There are no longer any fines for overdue items!Free Supports and Services for Schools and Families There are many ways in which Offaly Libraries can support your school community.

These sessions will explore the wonders of science,space and beyond! Students will be treated to fun facts and experiments with something onoffer for children from First Class up!There are three class sessions available in each of the libraries below. Come along to the library and test drive some robots or try your hand at building from scratch!The VEX Robotics Free Play workshops will be hosted in Banagher andFerbane libraries. Offaly Libraries have teamed up with ReelLIFE SCIENCE to bring anexciting opportunity to the youths of Offaly!ReelLIFE SCIENCE is a video/animation contest for youth organisationsand schools, which encourages young people to engage with scienceand technology in a creative way, while developing their digital andcommunications skills.Participants are challenged to research a Science, Technology,Engineering or Maths (STEM) topic and communicate it for the public viaan entertaining and educational 1-3 minute video/animation. Videos and animations can be made on smartphones, cameras ortablets, in English or Irish. In the Youth Group Category, the best videowill win €1000, with €500 for 2nd place and €250 for 3rd place. Winning videos and animations will also be screened for the public at theGalway Science and Technology Festival in University of Galway inNovember, and all participants will receive a ‘ReelLIFE SCIENCEChallenger’ certificate of participation.ReelLIFE SCIENCE have kindly given Offaly Libraries some Audio VisualKits as well as handy ‘How To’ guides to help make your videos. They willsoon be available to borrow from Offaly Libraries!The closing date for this year’s competition is October 13 BUT the kits willbe available all year round so you can get a head start on next year’scompetition.
