SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024 | 5ABOUT USWE HOPE THEYStay Wild is not just a brand. Co-founders Natalie Glaze and Zanna Van Dijk pour their hearts and souls into it. They have a clear mission; to celebrate the ocean and its impact on our lives, as it provides energy to the marine world and us, producing every second breath we take. As a result of this, the co-founders of Stay Wild are incredibly passionate about respecting and protecting it. Their mission is to produce swimwear with a purpose, and as a small business, they can bring their unique vision into reality. The key idea behind the product is to invest in one of their pieces and use it for years.Australia is owning the swimwear market. There are hundreds of huge, successful and beautiful brands, many of which are using recycled ocean plastic for their fabrics. They’re leading the way. However, the UK market severely lacks in this area. In fact, there really aren’t many other known brands which are UK based, ethical and sustainable on the swimwear front. The co-founders saw a gap and wanted to fill it.When you’re working in a slow fashion model, the priority is making sure that things are produced to the highest quality, and every piece has a purpose, and that every piece fits in with the brand and what the audience wants and needs.MATTER TO YOU.”

8 | STAY WILD SWIMB CORPA B Corp certification is a recognition given to companies that meet high standards of social and also environmental responsibility, as well as transparency and accountability. It’s awarded by B Lab, which is a nonprofit organization, to businesses that are focused on creating a positive impact on society, rather than just maximizing profit. We put people and the planet front of mind in everything we do and very proud to say Stay Wild is a certified B Corp, meaning that our whole business has been measured and also evaluated for our social and environmental impact. After in depth analysis, we have been certified to have met the highest standards of sustainability, ethics and transparency. In a world where greenwashing is becoming more common and the word ‘sustainable’ is being thrown about in all of the wrong places, you, the customer, can look at this certification as a means of knowing that the brand you are buying from has been verified to leave a positive impact on the community, society and the environment.B CORP CERTIFICATION:To become certified, a company must complete the B Impact Assessment and score at least 80 out of 200 points. The certification needs to be renewed every three years, and businesses are encouraged to keep improving their practices.1. How well the business treats its employees, engages with its community, and addresses social issues.2. Efforts to reduce waste, conserve energy, and operate in an environmentally friendly way.3. 10 | STAY WILD SWIMECONYL®®HOW WE USE IT:For our swimwear collection, we use ECONYL®, regenerated nylon yarn. Our ECONYL® yarn is sourced from Italy, where it is then evaluated as a high quality, durable and sustainable techno-fiber perfect for performance swimwear. Made with UPF 50+ designed to provide maximum UV protection. As well as being a solution on waste, ECONYL® regenerated nylon is better when it comes to climate change. It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with the material from oil. WHAT IS ECONYL?ECONYL® is a premium nylon that comes from different types of nylon waste such as fishing nets, old carpets and also nylon industrial waste, which would otherwise pollute the Earth. This waste is then transformed into ECONYL® regenerated nylon, boasting the same qualities as brand-new nylon but unlike traditional nylon, ECONYL® can be recycled, recreated, and remoulded again and again. Moreover, it is infinitely recyclable. By using regenerated nylon, designers now have endless possibilities to create new products without using new resources. More than 1,700 fashion and interior design brands have already chosen ECONYL®. For every 10,000 tons of raw material used to produce ECONYL® nylon, we save about 70,000 barrels of crude oil. It’s infinitely recyclable and can unleash infinite possibilities for makers, creators, and consumers.

14 | STAY WILD SWIMOEKO-TEX®® + ECOVERO™WHAT IS OEKO-TEX?OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 is a label given to textiles tested for harmful substances. This label sets the benchmark for textile safety, from yarn to the finished product. Every item bearing the STANDARD 100 label is certified as having passed all of the safety tests for the presence of harmful substances. WHAT IS ECOVERO?EcoVero™ is a sustainable viscose made using sustainable wood from many controlled sources, instead of bamboo or eucalyptus, which is commonly used in normal viscose production. Made from purified cellulose, EcoVero™ fiber is produced from a specially processed wood pulp and is often compared to silk and cotton.HOW WE USE IT:Stay Wild’s Be A Force of Nature tees are made using Oeko-Tex® Certified ECOVERO™ fibers. Linen is a natural textile that is made from flax fibres and is particularly suited to hot weather as it is so breathable. There is very little waste created during the linen production process as pretty much all of the plant is used, and where it is not the by products are things like linseed oil and to make varnishes for wood. The Stay Wild and Young Wild & Plastic Free tees are crafted from factory offcuts of recycled organic cotton and recycled plastic bottles which otherwise would’ve ended up in landfill to create an ultra-soft, durable tee.

16 | STAY WILD SWIMKNOW YOUR FABRICHEMPHemp, like flax, can be grown in very rough conditions and doesn’t need that much care of affection. It has a very high yield, grows quickly and produces more fibre than flax or cotton as a result. The fabric it makes is really strong and durable, so it can be used for a wide range of products from shoes and bags to clothing. the by products are also usable as food sources, hemp seeds and hemp oil.TENCELTencel is made from eucalyptus trees growing in Australia and Indonesia. The great thing about eucalyptus trees is that they are strong plants and they don’t need any pesticides or fertilisers sprayed on them, just a little water. The trees grow on land that would have otherwise gone to ‘waste’ as it’s unsuitable for agricultural development. The wood pulp from the eucalyptus trees requires no chemical processing and a study by the University of Leipzig in 2008 reported that the process consumes ten to twenty times less water than would be used in the production of an equivalent amount of cotton.ORGANIC COTTONIt’s well documented these day that the growing of non-organic cotton is incredibly toxic and dangerous for those tending to the crops, and also to the health of the soil. This is because of the vast amounts of chemicals that are sprayed onto the plants in order for them to thrive and give a high yield. Organic cotton mean safer working conditions for the people that harvest it and less damage on the environment. It uses less water than non-organic cottons but still more than hemp and flax and eucalyptus.

Page 17

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024 | 17JUTEJute is a very tough fabric, much tougher than cotton, and such is used for carpets, bags and shoes. Jute biodegrades easily, grows very quickly and doesn’t need chemical pesticides to grown. Jute fibers, composed primarily of cellulose and lignin, are collected from bast of plants like kenaf, industrial hemp, flax, and ramie. The industrial term for jute fiber is raw jute. The fibers are off-white to brown.LINENLinen is a natural textile made from flax fibres and is particularly suited to hot weather as its so breathable. Linen is having a bit of a moment, fashion wise, which from an environmental point of view is great—it’s even the new Egyptian Cotton of the bedsheet world. The flax plant is hardy and strong and can be grown in harsh conditions. It also requires far less water than cotton. There is also very little waste during the linen production process as pretty much all of the plant is used, and where it’s not the by products are thing like linseed oil and to make varnishes for wood.ECONYLThe raw materials are fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpet flooring and industrial plastic from landfill and oceans. Then, through a pioneering and a radical regeneration process, which is the product of 4 years hard work and the research from the founding company, the nylon waste is regenerated back to its original purity meaning that ECONYL® regenerated nylon is the exact same purity as virgin nylon. One of the huge benefits of using ECONYL® nylon is that it can be recycled infinitely, without ever losing its good quality.

18 | STAY WILD SWIMOUR FACTORYPRODUCTION PROCESS:Stay Wild is proud to design and produce their pieces in our home, London, using a small local factory who aligns with our ethos. This allows them to remain very heavily involved in every step of the production process, forming direct relationships with those creating our pieces and ensuring our high ethical and sustainable standards are met.Stay Wild made a special effort to ensure all stages of their production process focus on small, local and start up businesses where possible. Their factory is based in London and trains those from disadvantages backgrounds in cutting, sewing and clothing production. Their hang tags are hand printed in the UK. Their shipping is carbon neutral. Their packaging is recycled and recyclable. They are stocking Guppy Friend microfibre catching bags to wash the swimwear in so no micro plastics enter the water system; not to mention they are supporting ocean charities. OUR FACTORY...• Exceeds the industry ethical standards with higher wages and• Has world class working conditions• Has a zero waste approach to their garment production• Only collaborates with ethical suppliers• Focuses on quality and building pieces which last• Uses biodegradable and eco-friendly packaging• Exclusively uses carbon neutral shipping• Has energy saving motors on all equipmentLONDON, UK

Page 19

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024 | 19PACKING + DISTRIBUTION OUR PACKAGING:It is very important to us that every element of Stay Wild is as sustainable as possible. As a result, their hang tags and packaging are recycled and recyclable, their hygiene liners are 100% compostable and are made using tree pulp, their distribution center is a small independent business located in the UK and their shipping is also carbon neutral. No matter the demand for recycled materials, the ocean does not care if your plastic bottle is made from recycled goods. We can all work on improving the quality of our recycling, but first of all we should all be looking at what goes into our basket before it goes into our bin. With recycling rules changing in every county, even the keenest of us can be pretty confused about what goes where. Recycling is an amazing technique for reprocessing inevitable leftover waste. GUPPYFRIEND®:Producing swimwear from a regenerated ocean plastic means their pieces run the risk of releasing tiny micro-fibres into the water system when they are washed. To combat this issue Stay Wild became one of the first UK stockists of the GuppyFriend bag. Theyencourage our customers to wash any of their synthetic fabrics in their GuppyFriend, capture the micro-plastics and to dispose of them responsibly to stop them entering the water system.

20 | STAY WILD SWIMCIRCULARITY PROJECTWHAT WE’RE DOING:We all need to do our part for the planet, and as a growing sustainable brand, we know we have the power to do more. That’s why, we will be accepting worn down and broken swimwear from any brand which you would have otherwise thrown out. And we alongside our factorywill be sending them on to our recycling partner, to then be recycled and repurposed into eco industrial products such as eco-carpet underlay. The idea is to keep precious materials that are no longer usable out of landfills and back in textile circulation. Because together, we can make a bigger impact. DID YOU KNOW? 350,000 tonnes, which is an estimated about £140 million worth of used but still wearable clothing goes to landfill in the UK every year. One study found the average Briton throws away about 3.1kg of textiles every year. With only 0.3kg of that being recycled and 0.4 kg sent to be reused. The textiles that do end up in landfills can sit there for up to 200 years, and whilst decomposing, it emits methane,a greenhouse gas which is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. By doubling the life of your clothing from just one to two years, we can help reduce emissions from clothing production and disposal by as much as 24%.“PRORESS IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT CHANGE.”

Page 22

22 | STAY WILD SWIMRECYCLINGIS RECYCLING ENOUGH?The recycling industry is under a lot of strain, and some people may find some further faults with how we recycle in the UK. However, our recycling system is not what is the problem; our consumption is. Recycling is an amazing technique for reprocessing inevitable leftover waste—but we should not be creating as much as we are right now.No matter the demand for recycled materials, the ocean does not care if your plastic bottle is made from recycled goods. We can all work on improving the quality of our recycling, but first of all we should all be looking at what goes into our basket before it goes into our bin.

Page 23

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2024 | 23RECYCLING TIPS EDUCATE YOURSELF:The best thing you can do to maximise your recycling returns is to familiarise yourself with what your local authority wants and how they want it. Yes, read that little leaflet that appears on your doormat often because research has proven that almost half of us still get it wrong! Your local authority will thank you for it. Your planet will thank you for it! WASH YOUR RECYCLING: Residues make it really hard for scanners to detect materials. Dirty waste runs the risk of contaminating your waste (and others!). This doesn’t just apply to your food waste either; if you still use liquid shampoos and bodywash (no judgement here) then make sure they are washed too. Remember, companies won’t spend their resources washing waste as it simply isn’t worth their time. Concerned about your water conservation? Try rinsing waste in your leftover washing up water. DON’T STACK:Squashing items is great for making more space in your recycling bin. Try swilling plastic bottles with hot water to squash them further. But stacking items inside one another actually makes it harder for scanners to detect materials. If the scanner can’t tell what it is then it’ll likely be fished out and sent to landfill. Squash, don’t stack! TAKE YOUR TOPS OFF:Bottle tops, foil lids, film lids – take your top off! In fact, separate all of the different parts of an item. This is especially true for plastic bottles, where the lid is almost always made from some different type of plastic. Facilities can hack small amounts of contamination; so, put down the scissors because the rings and labels aren’t going to cause any drastic issues. However, lots of lids can dilute the quality of recycled plastic pellets and impact their market.ue.

24 | STAY WILD SWIMOUR GOALS:People often think of “eco brands” as being old fashioned and inaccessible. By turning threat into thread in an ethical and stainable manner, we hope to provide an example of a modern eco-conscious company. We want to prove that you can build a successful brand which is kind to the planet without compromising on quality or style; and hopefully lead the way for more sustainable organisations to enter the market. We are doing this for the planet, so this isn’t just about us. It‘s about a growing movement of businesses who are using responsible practices. We want to celebrate those who are taking the positive steps to lower their impact on the environment.SUSTAINABLE GOALS THE BIGGER PICTURE:This is just one step in the bigger picture. As this is more than one brand’s ethos—this is about the planet and our oceans. We know this is not enough, but it’s a step in the right direction. Our long term goal is to eventually be fully circular, so in many years down the line you can send in your old Stay Wild pieces, once they have worn down, and we will be able to use this same material to create new Stay Wild designs. We are always making what we do better and more sustainable, as this is a journey and we are constantly evolving.
