AUTOMATED STORAGE & RETRIEVAL SYSTEMSFIXED AISLEThis type of system usually operates in narrow aisles(about 12 feet wide) or on column racks. Thesesystems can be designed to rotate or slide goods ontoand off the storage racks. Fixed aisle AS/RS systemsoften include an active layer that performs automatedpallet handling, such as pick-to-pallet, pushback, andreplenishment pallet to racking system (RPRS).VERTICAL CAROUSELVertical carousels work like a Ferris wheel, wheretrays move together similar to Ferris wheel passengercars. Vertical carousels save floor space and offergreater inventory security when compared tohorizontal carousels. Vertical carousel systems can beup to three stories tall. They typically handle heavieror bigger items than the more common horizontalcarousel systems, which are better suited for storingsmaller or lighter items. HORIZONTAL CAROUSELHorizontal carousels, which are also known as rotatingcarousels, feature rails that run along an assembly lineor aisles where the goods are stored. This AS/RSsystem can be installed on these rails, allowing goodsto be stacked directly on top of one another instead ofhaving them stacked in individual bins. Horizontalcarousels can range from 20 – 50 feet in length and upto three stories tall, and can hold up to five stacks ofgoods.VERTICAL LIFT MODULEVertical Lift Modules (VLMs) use a crane to store andretrieve inventory on shelving within the enclosedmodule. VLMs have much higher vertical reach, andrequire less attention to weight balancing needs whencompared to Vertical Carousels. VLMs allow flexibilityin organizing varying size goods offering improvedpicking accessibility and organization.09info@srsi.com

With the rise of smaller, individualized, and frequentorders, controlling split-casepicking costs has become a majorchallenge for warehousemanagement. The industry isadvancing with new order-pickingmethods and technologies, andSRSI excels in implementing thesetools effectively. As customersincreasingly demand immediatefulfillment, especially with theshift to e-commerce, direct-to-consumer companies must adaptquickly. SRSI offers a streamlinedapproach, leveraging decades ofexperience and industryconnections to implementefficient picking solutions acrossvarious sectors, including pharma, convenience stores, fooddistribution, general merchandise, and automotive, ensuring yourproject is handled expertly andcost-effectively.PICKING SOLUTIONSPICK-TO-LIGHT Pick-to-Light is a popular, cost-effectivemethod of order picking due to precision.expediency, and ease of use. Improveproductivity by reducing travel timebetween picks and boost order accuracyand throughput using visual, light-directedpicking.SPLIT-CASE PICKINGFULL-CASE PICKINGEfficient warehouse managementinvolves strategic full-casepicking tailored to productdemand, with fast movers bestpicked directly from pallets, medium movers stored in cartonflow systems, and slow movers instatic shelving. Effective slottingmethods like Gold-zone and ABCslotting can reduce the need forlabor and equipment byoptimizing product placement, thereby minimizing transportationwaste. SRSI offers systems thatanalyze inventory data and adaptto demand shifts, enhancingproductivity and accuracythrough the use of voice pickingand RF-driven wearables, whichalso boost employee morale byfreeing their hands from paperhandling.LAYER PICKINGFor efficient order fulfillment, semi-automated layer-picking operations, wherefull layers of cartons are picked at once forpalletizing mixed SKUs, may be optimal.SRSI can design the entire pickingoperation, specifying necessary equipment, racking, and conveyor materials, and alsoprovide layout, installation, and trainingservices. As demand for robotics in layerpicking grows, SRSI remains a leadingprovider, offering tailored solutions toautomate, semi-automate, or optimizewarehouse operations for enhancedefficiency and organization.17info@srsi.com

GOODS TO PERSONVERTICAL LIFT MODULE (VLM)These systems store products intrays stacked in vertical cabinets, which are then brought to the GTP(goods-to-person) user. They offerdense storage at a lower cost, making them ideal for brownfieldsites with capacity issues.Additionally, they featureintegratable software that can linkto existing warehousemanagement systems, enhancingoperational efficiency.SRSI’S AS/RS RAFT® SOLUTIONSRSI’s RAFT® AS/RS can functionas a GTP system with acustomizable grid structure androbots maneuvering pallets bothhorizontally and vertically. Thissystem densely stores pallets andbrings them to any designatedposition on the exterior of the gridstructure, enhancing storageefficiency and accessibility.SHUTTLE/MINI-LOADShuttle systems store rows oftotes along aisles and are cost-effective for high-rate solutionsdue to their use of multipleretrieval shuttles. Mini-loadsystems, with a single retrievalshuttle, offer a lower-costalternative but with reducedthroughput.AUTOMATED GUIDED VEHICLES (AGV)AGVs are fully autonomous robots that move and transport items in production, warehouse, and distribution centers without manual intervention or permanentconveying systems. They follow configurable guide paths to optimize storage, picking, and transport functions in a wide variety of environments where space isat a premium. One application for robotic unit picking is in an automated order-pack-outoperation. As batches are picked, multi-SKU totes arrive at the automated pack-out work station, an advanced vision system using Al can identify each item in thetote and accurately pick, pack. and label the order for outbound shipping.19info@srsi.com

INDUSTRIAL STORAGE RACK & SHELVINGSELECTIVE RACKA single, deep, selective pallet rackis low-density storage ideal forfacilities with high counts of itemsand SKU’s with low amounts ofpallets on hand. Selective PalletRack offers quick access andversatile full-pallet storage. Thissystem is easy to use, dependable, and cost-effective for warehousepallet storage.DRIVE-IN RACKDrive-in pallet rack is a popularmaterial handling solution for high-volume SKUs, featuring a highlycondensed footprint with depthstypically ranging from 6-8 pallets(up to 10) and multiple levels. These systems are designed tomaximize pallet storage density.PUSH BACK RACKPush-back rack systems offerdeep-lane pallet storage in acompact footprint with single-aisleaccess, distinguishing them fromother high-density pallet storagesolutions. Typicallyaccommodating 2-5 pallets deep, this design provides readilyaccessible reserve inventory with adedicated lane for each SKU.21info@srsi.com

VERY NARROW AISLE RACKING Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) palletracking provides significantadvantages with its efficientdesign, offering direct access to allunit loads and a highly selectivestorage system. By reducing aislewidth, VNA racking optimizesspace utilization and can achieveup to 40% total space savings.CARTON/PALLET FLOWPallet flow is a gravity-basedstorage method that provides deepinventory reserves and anautomatically replenished pickface. It can double the palletstorage capacity of standardselective racks while using asmaller, more condensedwarehouse footprint.INDUSTRIAL SHELVINGIndustrial shelving offers a cost-effective solution for storing smallparts and inventory. Despite itssimplicity, shelving units can becustomized with dividers, bins, andboxes to secure items andseparate SKUs for quicker, moreaccurate order picking orassembly.INDUSTRIAL STORAGE RACK & SHELVING833.228.690222
