Project GoalContribute to Haiti’s reforestation by planting new trees in Balan, Haiti.Project UpdateFollow-ups by nursery workers between the months of Januaryand March:Maintenance and monitoring of seedlings in the nurseryEstablishment of orchards and wooded lots on thebeneficiaries' plotAll plants were distributed to beneficiaries and successfullytransplantedOrchards consist of papayas, cherries and citrus fruits, withat least 100 fruit seedlings transplanted to the beneficiaries'plotsWooded lots with at least 100 forest seedlings transplantedto the beneficiaries' plotsThe project was fraught with many setbacks, including extendedperiods of drought, bringing in significant agricultural losses andslowing down the establishment of orchards in Balan. This was pairedwith political, social and economic events impacting itsimplementation. MISSEH had to keep the seedings in the nursery untilthe rainy season arrived, incurring unplanned expenses. This created a desperate situation for families who depended onagriculture for their income, as their production and economicactivities were significantly reduced.Despite all the challenges, we are pleased to inform you that theproject has been completed.
In the end, the project raised awareness among Balan's population onliving under unsanitary conditions, the dangers of deforestation andthe effects of natural disasters, encouraging strong communityinvolvement in the project's activities. It was encouraging that the schoolchildren participated in planting theseedlings and introducing them to reforestation. We thank you immensely for your commitment to the project despitethe setbacks and your faith in God's engagement by your side."Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothingmove you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:58 TestimonialRalph Blinkenson Hilaire, a resident of the villageof Balan and one of the beneficiaries, expressedhis delight about the project's implementationby stating: "I am happy because this project hassignificantly improved the living conditions ofmy family and me. This project will not onlybeautify the area and provide shade but alsoproduce fruits and vegetables that promote ourhealth and happiness. Furthermore, the projectwill contribute to reducing the period of droughtby continuing the water cycle. In conclusion, weexpress our gratitude to the donors and FoodFor The Poor for this opportunity, and we prayfor God's continued blessings upon them."
