THERAPIST SUCCESS STORIESS P T NE W S L ET T E R | N OVE M B ER 2 0 25 I S SU EBuilding Literacy and Confidence ThroughStructured, Evidence-Based Intervention“When this 12-year-old client firstbegan literacy intervention, he wasacutely self-aware of his readingchallenges and often expressedembarrassment about needing extrahelp. He struggled to approachunfamiliar words and frequentlyavoided reading aloud. Initialassessment revealed difficulties withphonological awareness, decodingaccuracy, and automatic wordrecognition, which are all essential skillsfor fluent reading.Therapy focused on a highly structured, individualized program built onevidence-based, multisensory decodingstrategies and a systematic scope andsequence. Therapy sessions integratedsegmenting, blending, articulating, spelling, and decoding to strengthensound-symbol connections andreinforce the relationship betweenreading and spelling. Over time, he learned to apply theseskills across increasingly complexlevels, beginning with single words andadvancing to sentences and connectedparagraphs. By coupling spelling-to-read approaches with guided readingpractice, he built both accuracy andautomaticity in decoding.Today, this client reads confidently andwith enthusiasm. He takes pride inreading aloud at home and oftenvolunteers to read new material, demonstrating not only measurableprogress in literacy skills but also aprofound shift in self-perception. Hissuccess underscores the importance ofstructured, evidence-based literacyintervention that integrates decoding, encoding, and multisensoryengagement, empowering clients tobecome lifelong, confident readers.”Aanchal P., Royse City
