As we reach the halfway point of the year, Iwant to take a moment to thank our team andvolunteers for all their hard work thus far in2025. I hope you can see the efforts of theteam starting to shine through in a number ofareas like PB&G Consistency, Golf andRacquets programming, and in general, bringing our members together. We started 2025 with the Board adopting fourstrategic pillars: Golf: With help from Mark Thirtle, our newDirector of Golf and his stellar team, the launch ofnew leagues and instructional clinics to the wildlysuccessful LC Pros Skins Game, our golf programhas never been more active. The energy andengagement from our members, both on and offthe course has been wonderful to see. Dining Enhancements: Chef Eric and the culinaryteam have continued to elevate our diningexperience with seasonal menus, wine dinners, and Friday night favorites like Poolside SmashBurgers and Live Music. We value your feedback. Please let Jennifer in Catering know what otherofferings you would like to see. We are open forbusiness through the end of 2026 and don’tanticipate any disruption until January 2027. Facility Upgrades: Our team has been focused onbehind-the-scenes maintenance across alldepartments, designed to enhance efficiency, member service, and long-term care of theproperty. This year, we replaced our pool heaters, purchased a squeegee for removing moisture fromthe racquet courts, replaced damaged racquetfencing, and purchased our own racquet stringerto better serve members. While the clubhouseplanning has been slow, we continue to evaluatehow to advance much-needed maintenance on theclubhouse. MEMBER EXPERIENCE These areas of focus have many aspects, but attheir core, we are spending a lot of timeworking collaboratively with all ourstakeholders to bring these to life—this is amarathon, not a sprint. Below, I have shared afew highlights for members to understand howthese are coming to life.THE DIVOT | FROM THE GMfrom Adam Zubek, GM/COOgm update3

Thank you for embracing these tools and allthe feedback—we are listening and appreciate yourinput. Below is a YTD snapshot of our scores withclose to 1000 responses. Our targeted score is anNPS of 62. The Audit has taken longer than expected. This is part and parcel to the changes in ouryear-end, auditors, banking, investmentbanking, and migration to a new accountingplatform, in addition to all the staff changessince 2020. Unraveling five years ofaccounting so we understand how we arrivedhere is a challenge with an accounting teamof two. Concurrent to all of this, as wediscover issues, we are implementingnecessary changes and controls along theway. Youth Engagement: Summer Camp is off to a greatstart with weekly programming in golf, tennis, andaquatics. It’s exciting to see the next generation ofLa Cumbre members building friendships andconfidence through our junior programs.PEOPLEWe are thrilled that Kris Cance, our Director ofPeople and Culture, is working hard to providemeaningful orientations and onboarding for newstaff. We are implementing new policies to helpstandardize our practices and improve what itmeans to work at La Cumbre. In addition toemployee engagement activities, Kris has launchedan employee-led Safety Committee to monitor thesafety of our staff. This is a huge step forward for usas a club. Lastly, our various leaders are upgradingtheir training programs to serve staff and membersbetter alike. ESG: Early in the year, our board approved a BoardPolicies Manual to document institutionalknowledge of best practices that haveevolved at LC over past administrations andgenerations. We have hosted three coffeetalks, two town hall-style meetings, and onefocus group to date, and received valuableinput and feedback on a host of items thatwill make us better as a club. Member focusgroups and engagement will continuethroughout the balance of the year to helpcommunicate membership updates, more onour capital dues, and where things stand withour projects. Looking Ahead: As we move into the second half of the year,we’re focused on continuing momentum in allareas, including welcoming new members, executing our programming, and ensuringthat every visit to La Cumbre feels relaxing, rewarding, and special. On behalf of our entire staff and ourcommitted volunteers, thank you for yourongoing support, enthusiasm, and pride inthis exceptional Club. Warm regards, FINANCES: Financial Management continues to be a focus andchallenge as we continue to unravel years of change– making it tremendously difficult to understandhow things evolved.

As a fitness professional and parent of two young girls, I know firsthand that wellness doesn’talways look like a perfect workout or a healthy meal. Some days, wellness is just showing up—especially when life is heavy, messy, or uncertain. We all go through phases—seasons when energy is low, motivation dips, or we’re carryingemotional weight that doesn’t show on the surface. In those times, it’s tempting to withdraw, towait until we "feel better" or "have more time." But here’s the truth I’ve learned: our presence, notour perfection, is what shapes lasting wellness—both for us and for those watching us.It’s just like parenting through Poppy’s developmental phase right now. She might be struggling tolisten, skipping naps, and getting out of bed every five minutes at nighttime, but I still show up. Idon’t stop parenting because it’s hard. I meet her with patience, grace, and consistency (evenwhen I’m exhausted). I know that how I respond matters more than how easy the phase is.The same applies to our own wellness. When we keep showing up—taking the walk, doing the stretches, breathing through the chaos—we teach our kids, our peers, and ourselves what resilience really looks like. We teach that it’s okaynot to be 100% all the time. What matters is the willingness to keep going, to try, and to care. One tool that’s helped me stay grounded is using positive affirmations. I have written about thisbefore, but it’s always a good reminder to hear it again. Every night with the girls, we go throughour handful of affirmations: “I am LOVED, I am STRONG, I am KIND, I am SMART, I am CAPABLE, Iam WORTHY, I am BRAVE, I can do anything I set my mind to!” These words are a great reminderto the girls that a moment can be tough, but that they are tougher!I hold these words and moments with my girls in such high regard because they’re watching how Ihandle hard things. I want them to learn that strength isn’t about never struggling. It’s aboutcontinuing with heart, even when it’s uncomfortable.Summertime means lots of fun family andfriend visits to Santa Barbara and of courseyou all want to show off your wonderful clubduring this time together. I wanted to remindeveryone that the Fitness Center does notallow guests of any type and once yourdependent turns 25 they have aged out ofusing the Fitness Center as well. Have anamazing summer and keep up the good work! This month, I invite you to give yourself gracethrough your hard phase—and show upanyway. Do it imperfectly. Do it tired. Do it forthe version of yourself (and your kids) that’slearning through the process.Because those small, consistent steps? They’re building something big. With love, from Director of Health & Wellness, Jarratt RouseRULES REMINDERTHE DIVOT | FITNESS17Jarratt Rouse

THE DIVOT | FITNESS3 TIPS TO LEVEL UP YOUR DISTANCESTEP 1: IMPROVE FLEXIBILITYB U I L D I N G S P E E D T H I S S U M M E RAs the weather warms up and the golf season gets into full swing, there’s no better time to focuson building clubhead speed. A higher clubhead speed directly translates to more distance, andwho doesn’t want to hit longer, more powerful shots off the tee? Improving clubhead speed isn’tjust about swinging harder; it’s about a combination of flexibility, sequencing, and strength. Hereare three key steps to help you build speed and power in your golf swing this spring. The first step in increasing your clubhead speedis to improve your flexibility. When you increasethe range of motion in your body—particularly inyour hips, spine, and shoulders—you give yourclub more room to move and generate speed. Afull, fluid turn allows you to load energy in yourbackswing and then release it efficiently in thedownswing. Without flexibility, you’ll be limited inhow much speed you can generate. One effective flexibility exercise to improve your rotational mobility is the Open Books Exercise.Start by lying on your side with your knees bent at 90 degrees and your arms extended in frontof you. Slowly open your top arm towards the floor behind you, rotating your upper body andreaching your hand as far back as possible. Follow the movement with your eyes, and return tothe starting position. This exercise helps improve your spinal rotation and enhances the fluidityof your turn. Perform 6-10 reps on each side. Pro Tip: Hold a light weight in your hand to increase the stretch through your shoulders.Key Exercise: Rotational Open Books on SideSTEP 2: INCREASE EFFICIENCY AND SEQUENCINGTo truly maximize your clubhead speed, it’simportant to not just work harder but smarter.Efficient movement and proper sequencing—how your body moves in relation to the club—are critical. Moving heavier objects than the golfclub will help train your body to be moreefficient, and give you real-time feedback if yourmovements become out of sequence.19from Personal Trainer, Lucas Miller

Page 20

A great way to improve your sequencing and efficiency is through the Medicine Ball RotationalThrow. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and holding a medicine ball in bothhands. Rotate your body to one side, then explosively throw the ball against a wall or into apartner's hands. Focus on generating power from your lead leg, core and hips (not just your arms). This exercise reinforces the proper sequencing of your swing, making it easier to transfer energyefficiently through your body and into the club. Perform 4-6 ‘high effort’ reps on each side. Pro Tip: To help load the lead leg even more, take a small step forward as you perform themovement. This gets the hips firing first before the upper body takes over.To build strength and stability in your lead leg, incorporate the Bulgarian Split Squat withRotation into your routine. Balance on one footwith the other foot anchored to the benchbehind you. Lower your hips into a squatposition while keeping your front knee alignedwith your foot. As you lower into the movement, rotate your torso over your front leg. Return to a straightposition at the top. Perform 8-12 reps on each side. This exercise not only strengthens your leadleg but also adds a rotational element, simulating the powerful motion in your golf swing. ProTip: Hold a weighted plate at your chest to increase the difficulty of the movement and challengeyour balance.Building speed in your golf swing doesn’t happen overnight, but by focusing on flexibility, sequencing, and vertical power, you can make significant gains. Remember, it’s about creatingmore room for the club to move, sequencing efficiently, and generating power through a strongfoundation. By incorporating these exercises into your training routine, you’ll see improvementin both your swing speed and your distance off the tee this spring. Stay consistent and enjoy theprocess of becoming a longer, more powerful hitter!STEP 3: IMPROVE VERTICAL STRENGTH AND POWERFINAL THOUGHTSDid you know that the longest hitters on tour generate forces north of 220% of their bodyweight? To hit the ball farther, you need to develop vertical power, particularly in your lead leg. Astrong and powerful lead leg provides the foundation for creating speed as you push off theground during the downswing.THE DIVOT | FITNESSKey Exercise: Medicine Ball Rotational ThrowKey Exercise:Bulgarian Split Squat with RotationContact our Golf Fitness Specialist to schedule yourcomprehensive evaluation.Lucas Miller, TPI Certifiedlmiller@lacumbrecc.org | (909) 720-0517Looking To Level UpYour Speed?20

We wrapped up the 2025 Ladies Interclub seasonwith yet another incredible year, one that will godown as a defining era for our club. Like the NBAseason, Interclub is a long grind: it starts in Augustand stretches through May, ending with acelebratory luncheon at the Montecito Club. Thisyear, three of our four teams huddled together withtrophies in hand for a group photo that capturedsomething extraordinary. For the second year in a row, our club brought homethree league titles, a feat that had never beenaccomplished before, let alone done twice. Evenmore impressive, our Ladies C team clinched theirthird consecutive championship, completing adominant three-peat. Meanwhile, our A2 and Bteams each secured back-to-back titles. So, whatdrives this kind of success? I believe it comes downto a powerful force in sport: momentum. Momentumis a force that every athlete feels, but few can explainit. It's the shift in energy after a big point, theconfidence that builds after a tight win, and the quietpressure that mounts on the other side of the net.And when it’s harnessed, momentum can createdynasties. This year’s French Open was a masterclass inmomentum. Coco Gauff found herself in a deep hole, down a double break at 4–1 in the first set and facing40–Love. But she didn’t panic. She stayed composed, fought her way to a tiebreak, and eventuallyoutlasted her opponent in a thrilling third set. Nodrama. No frustration. Just belief, effort, and grit. Sheplayed with the same energy and focus at 1–4 downas she did when serving for the match. On the men’s side, Carlos Alcarazpulled off one of the mostunforgettable comebacks in recentmemory, saving three match points inthe final. When asked how he managedto stay in it, his answer was simple: “Ijust believed I could win the nextpoint.” That’s momentum, believing in themoment, not the score. That’s exactlywhat our ladies teams did all seasonlong. They cheered each other on. Theyfought for every point. They believed ineach other. And when one matchturned around, the whole teamseemed to lift. From hustle plays tohigh five’s to sideline support, theycreated a wave of energy that becameimpossible to stop. Momentum isn’tmagic. It’s built. It’s shared. It’s earnedthrough effort and belief—and ourplayers know how to harness it. We’re so proud of our Interclub ladiesfor another unforgettable season, andwe can’t wait to see what 2025–2026brings. With this kind of heart, fight, and camaraderie, we know the best isstill ahead.
