3Pretty in Purple: How the SpringEdition Red Bull Ranks Among theRestBy: Veda Ratliff Red Bull is known for releasing their energydrinks in new fruity flavors almost everyseason. This tradition is beloved by tired highschool students and busy college kids alike, who popularly rely on caffeine to get throughtheir school days. Looking around in my morning classes, I seemost of the desks housing either a Red Bull,Celsius, or an energy drink from the trendingbrand Alani. I prefer the 80 mg of caffeine thatI get from an 8.4 fl. oz. can of Red Bull, according to their official website, as opposedto the 100 mg of caffeine that’s packed intothe same amount of fluid ounces in an AlaniNu, as seen on the can. For Red Bull lovers andcaffeine addicts who’d like to try somethingnew, I would recommend checking out RedBull’s seasonal flavors. Spring 2025 has been welcomed with thenew “Spring Edition” Red Bull, featuring theflavor “Grapefruit and Blossom.” I’ve seenthe marketing for this drink on social mediaapps like TikTok and Instagram, so I wasmore than happy to try it out when I firstfound it at Deubber’s Carryout on ClevesWarsaw Pike. Upon sipping the SpringEdition, I could only taste the grapefruitflavor, and the blossom hint was more of anafterthought. As much as I loved the strongpunch of citrus, I would’ve appreciated moreblossom to balance the acidity. The flavor, although unbalanced, was still enjoyable andperfectly refreshing for spring. Later thatnight, I stopped at a UDF and grabbed threemore. The Spring Edition has tough competitioncompared to some past seasonal Red Bullflavors. The vanilla notes in the 2025 WinterRed Bull were a game changer, and the PinkEdition, which came soon after the WinterEdition, has a pleasantly sour kick. Amongother seasonal editions, I would rate theSpring Edition an 8/10 and recommendtrying this flavor if you find yourself in a gasstation energy drink aisle, you may just buythree more.

6Senior Spotlight The violin is one of the most beautifulinstruments, but in return, it's also one ofthe hardest instruments to learn. Playing itrequires basic rhythm skills, sight readingabilities, and arm muscles strong enough tohold it on your shoulder for hours.Perfecting it takes years of practice, amonk's patience, and incrediblecoordination. Senior Claire Wolford, aviolinist here at Oak Hills High School, haseach and every single one of theseattributes. I’ve personally known Wolford since freshman year. I can attest to herbeing an amazing violinist, a spectacular friend, and someone worthy ofidolizing. I asked Wolford what her best piece of advice for a beginnerviolinist was: “Be patient, if you put in the work, you’ll see the results as timegoes on. You don’t have to be perfect to make progress.”An Aspiring Violinist: Claire Wolford By Mickey WeadbrockCheck out the Seniorsfeatured on theTartan’s Instagram!

8A Bittersweet FourthQuarter With the fourth quarter fastapproaching, many Oak Hills seniorsare about to enter the last quarter oftheir high school career. I asked someof these seniors about their feelingsgoing into the fourth quarter, and theyshared some good memories, hopes forthe future, and words of advice. Many people stressed the importanceof joining clubs and getting involved inthe Oak Hills community. When askedwhat their favorite part of high schoolhas been, most answers aligned withCaylee Perkins, who responded,“Getting to experience school with funactivities, amazing staff, and goodpeers.” Similarly, an anonymous senioranswered, “Meeting all of my friendsand making memories.” The fourth quarter is full of manyfun opportunities, especially forseniors. Ali Klemann shared that she isexcited for “graduation and the funactivities with [her] senior class.”Correspondingly, Emma Brunnermentioned that she is “looking forwardto not really taking any exams, gettingto do fun things that seniors get to do,the walk, [her] art field trips andgraduation.” Even though there is much to lookforward to in the upcoming months, some seniors are nervous aboutleaving high school. “I used to beexcited to graduate, but now it'sbittersweet.” said one, when askedhow their attitude towards thefourth quarter has changed sincefreshman year. Another commentedthat “it’s much more exciting nowthat high school is completely over, but a little sad and bittersweetbecause we are all grown up.” There are also things that manyseniors would change about theirhigh school career if given theopportunity to do it over again.Penny Roth shared that she “wouldjoin more clubs from the start of[her] high school career.” CalebLongsdon shared that he “would takeschoolwork more serious.” There is no doubt that as wetransition into another quarter, ourseniors are getting ready totransition out of high school life.Their responses detailed the greatexperiences made at Oak Hills, andtheir feelings towards graduationremind us to cherish this time whileit lasts. We wish them luck as theyprepare to leave Oak Hills and start anew chapter of their lives.By Riley Loftus

9The Beginning of the End: Senior YearBy Addison Childs The first activity seniors get to do inthe second semester is participatingin Nerf Wars. This is a fun gamewhere seniors make teams of 6-8seniors that go to Oak Hills. They willget put against one other team aweek and try to get the othermembers out via Nerf gun. The costto play is $10 each, and the totalearnings that the winners receive isaround $1000. This is a fun way to getstudents involved in a whole gradeactivity and to bring them togetheroutside of school. The game isstudent-led and it is only allowed tobe played off of school grounds. The second activity that seniors getto do in the second semester is goingto prom. This year’s prom is on April26, from 7-11 p.m.. The prom is at theCincinnati Museum Center, UnionTerminal. Seniors can run for PromKing and Queen starting at the end ofMarch - early April. Prom is one ofthe many desired senior activities.Although Juniors also get to go toprom and plan it, seniors get to enjoytheir last school dance with theirfriends and some of their favoriteteachers as chaperones. But going tothe actual prom isn't even the bestpart of the night. “After Prom” is oneof the events that students andteachers both look forward to. Thisevent runs after prom is over and itprovides food, drinks, games, andraffles to students who stay thewhole time. This benefits the kidsbecause it rewards them, funds theschool and its activities, and keepsstudents from making poor decisionson the night out. PromNerf Wars

You may have foundyourself thinking “I could never dothat,” but luckily for you, gardening can actually be mucheasier than you think. As someonewho loves to garden, these aresome of the easiest, low-maintenance plants I recommendfor new gardenersPeonies To start, you should plant amature shrub in early spring asdeep as its roots are. Be sure toplant them in fertile soil and in anarea where they will receive atleast 6 hours of sunlight daily. Finally, they only should bewatered every 7-10 days Dianthus Dianthus can be planted in eithera pot or ground soil. The seedsshould be planted around the sametime as peonies, so during earlyspring and only about ⅛ an inchdeep. They also need at least 6hours of sunlight and should be

Inboth settings they need somethingthe vines can climb such as a metalplant cage or sticks. They areannuals so need to be replantedevery year. Sugar snap peas needfull sun like the previous plants, they need at least 6 hours of sundaily. They should also be wateredevery 2-3 daysSummer Squash If growing them from seeds, Irecommend wrapping them in awet paper towel, placing them in aplastic zipper baggie, and tapingthem to a window for about 1 weekbecause it allows them togerminate. Then, plant them abouthalf an inch deep in early spring. Also keep in mind these plants areannuals like sugar snap peas Theyneed full sun much like all theother plants listed and they needlots of water but not often so youshould deeply water them once aweek. watered roughly every 7-10 days.If kept in a pot, be sure the pothas proper drainage holes so theplant is not over-hydrated whenwatering. Tomatoes To start, you can grow tomatoesfrom either a mature plant orseeds. Seeds should be plantedduring early spring in eitherground soil or a pot about ¼ aninch deep. On the other hand, mature plants should be planted inlate spring or early summer. Theywill need to be replanted everyyear. Tomatoes are full sun plants

14 Whether you’ve never gardenedbefore or tried and had little to noluck, giving these plants a shot issure to give your landscape abreath of life. Gardening can berelaxing and honestly requireslittle dedication depending on theplant. This is an excellentopportunity I recommend foranyone considering caring forplants. Now take your newfoundskills and put that green thumb togood use! Tomatoes are full sun plants sothey need at least 6 hours ofsunlight a day and should bewatered about every 3-4 days. Theamount of time they take to growproduce varies, but you'll know thetomatoes are ready for harvestwhen they are juicy red. 17A Guide to the UltimateSpring BreakBy Lotus Olson As spring break approaches, there are a vast number of things todo. Spring is fun because it is like aslow introduction to summer, andspring break is just a hint of whatsummer will be like. Most students, like me, are counting down thedays until spring break. So I willgive you some ideas of funactivities to do over the break.which many consider a time forcleansing and blossoming. FromPassover in North America toNowruz in Persia, these seasonalevents shape how we view theseason. So, how will you welcomespring this year?Mini GolfMini gold is a fun-filled activitythat you and your friends can do ona nice day. There is a mini golfplace right here on the Westside,General Custer’s. Sunday-Friday, itis open from 3 PM to 9 PM, and onSaturdays, it is open from 12 PM to9 PM. This is also a cheaperactivity, being only $8 for 12 andup, $7 for ages 5 to 11, and $3 forages 4 and down. Also at GeneralCuster’s is soft serve ice cream, leading me to my next suggestion.Ice creamIf there is a hot day and you want alittle sweet treat, soft serve may bethe choice for you. While GeneralCuster’s is just one of many placesnear the Westside, you can get softserve anywhere you choose andhave a good experience. Somepopular places are Sweets n’ Eats inDelhi, Zip Dip in Bridgetown, andlastly Cone Zone in Cheviot. If youwould like to travel a bit farther toget some elite soft serve, Flubs, located in Hamilton and Fairfield

Page 18

18could also be a good option.Pickleball With pickleball courts on bothsides of town, some in Delhi Parkand some in Kuliga Park, it is a funthing to do with friends on a nicewarm spring day. While noteveryone may know how to play, itis easy to pick up with littlepractice. This game can be asserious as you want to make it, andcompetitive, or it can just be asimple, fun game on a warm day. Trampoline Parkis a fun thing to do if the weather isnot as nice one day. Princing isreasonable for toddlers to jump foran hour it is $13.00 and generalpricing is $19.00 to jump for anhour. The new location just over onGlenway Crossing makes it aconvenient and fun stop on thebreak. Another thing you could do is goto Nova, a new trampoline parkthat opened just last November, near us. This is something youcould do with family or friends andHot Pilates Lastly, you could go to a HotPilates class. Just over in Dent, anew pilates place opened calledBody Alive. While hot pilates is noteasy, the instructors there are kindand make it a fun experience.Between the fun colored LED lightsand the pop music they play, theexperience is worth the price. Youcan try it out with your first classstarting at just $5.00. Overall, there are many things todo in Cincinnati, and you can’t gowrong with any of them. These arejust some unique ideas I thoughtwould be fun to do with family andfriends to make your break amemorable one.

19The cast for this production is madeup of many talented individuals whohave worked hard to give their bestperformance. The lead roles of JeanValjean, Fantine, Eponine, Marius, and Cosette were played by JaxsonDorsel, Natalie Gilb, Eve Troutwine,Logan Nerlinger, and Abby Butts, respectively. Each of the main castmembers (and everyone in theensemble) showed so muchenthusiasm for their roles andperformances. Kudos to everyone who put in the timeproducing a spectacular musical forOak Hills. These productions aren’tmade overnight, and everyone, fromthe directors to the ensemble, put agreat amount of effort and care thatshows tenfold on the stage. Do You Hear the Cast and Crew Sing?: LesMisérablesAfter months of preparation andhard work, the Oak Hills Drama Clubrecently had its production, LesMisérables (or Les Mis for short),April 3rd through April 5th. LesMisérables is a musical based on thepopular novel by Victor Hugo. Thestory is set in 19th-century Franceand follows a cast of characters asthey face misfortune. The show wasroughly 2 ½ hours with time for a 15minute intermission halfwaythrough. There is more to the production thanmeets the eye. Besides the cast’scountless hours of rehearsal on stage, the build crew and tech crew haveput a lot of time into making the setcome to life and helping theperformance run smoothly. Manylarge set pieces, like the barricade orthe horse cart, were so well puttogether. For those who didn’t attendthe show, the barricade stretched thelength of the stage and was filledwith objects that gave the illusionthat the scene was filled with actionon the other side of the stage. Thecrew’s contribution to the show didnot go unnoticed. By Riley Loftus

20From Auditions to Applause: The Journey ofOak Hills’ Les Misérables CastBy Teagan This year's musical, Les Miserables, has over 80 members whencombining cast and crew. A largeportion of this 80 is the cast, withroughly 60 individuals immersed inthis fan-favorite musical. With thatbeing said, to get a deeperunderstanding of how behind-the-scenes is presenting, I interviewed ahandful of the lead roles andensembles of our show. In thisarticle we will discuss what wasbehind these students auditioning, their role in the musical, how theybalance school with such a time-consuming feat, and finally theirfavorite song in the musical. An important part of an individualbecoming involved in our showshere at Oak Hills High School is theaudition process. Many studentsspend weeks preparing for this. What's something that is arguablymore important? The desire to prepare and audition. One of thestudents I interviewed was Junior,Kennie White. After being inquiredabout this, she replied, “..the goodcommunity or the people involved, they are all so friendly.” This wasfollowed up by one of the otherindividuals I interviewed, Senior,Niko Palassis, “I love the show, Ilove playing these characters, they're so special.” Both of thesequotes give us an idea of themotivation most students have forauditioning. After the audition process, roles arechosen by Mrs Palassis, or morefamiliarly, Mama P. Following myquestioning about the student'sfavorite part of their role, Senior JaconIrwin remarked, “I play Thénardier. Ina super depressing show, I'm the onethat gets to have fun.” He goes on,“He's a con man, despite being the badguy, he's so fun to play.” This inside

Page 21

21look at the infamous characterThénardier shows us that no matterthe role, villain or not, everyone hasan amazing time being involved inthis community.Mickey Weadbrock and Ibrainstormed what the mostdifficult thing would be for thesestudents to handle during their timein the musical. We quicklyconcluded that it must be theworkload. We wondered how thesestudents could take care of theirwork even with having to stay afterschool for 3 hours at a time, frequently. Senior Niko Palassisadvised me, “Take a study hall, you’llneed it.” This was followed by SeniorQuentin Johnson who stated, “For adecent amount of the seniors, ifwe're not at school or rehearsals we’re at work or other things. It'shard to find time for yourself.” Thismade me realize that besidesjuggling school and their role, workwas thrown into the mix. Thisbalance takes much concentration, and yet, many of these students canfend for themselves despite thesechallenges. Les Miserables is a powerful showthat I cannot wait to be a partof/watch as it develops. Being a partof a community, such as a drama club,is a great reminder of how individualswith all types of differences can cometogether to make something amazing. What are you waiting for, don't takemy word for it, buy a ticket to see theshow this coming April from ourschool website!

22 With Prom quickly approaching on April 26th, many may be stressedabout finding the right dress. Finding the perfect dress for you isharder than it sounds. You have to find the perfect fit and the rightcolor to match your complexion and hair. However, I found somedresses that I think would perfectly match this year’s theme of StarryNight; most of the dresses are navy and light yellow to match the sky. Some dresses sparkle to look like stars in the night sky. Dresses That WillMake You A Star InThe NightBy: Lotus OlsonBeginningBoutiqueStaceesTeen VoguePromposal IdeasBy Evelyn DannOak Hills High School’s prom is rapidly approaching, and the chaos ofpreparation is finally setting in. Where to buy a dress? Where to buy asuit? Where do we go out to eat? So many thoughts suspendthemselves in our minds, but the one everyone is thinking of ispromposals. While it may seem juvenile to some, asking someone toprom can be a big deal, especially if you don’t have a plan. If you areone of those people, let your stress be relieved by taking a look at someof these cute and (slightly) cheesy promposal ideas we picked out fromTeen Vogue to help you ask out that someone special.
