7PROLOGUEDuring a winter snowfall, a Queen sits sewing by an open window. She accidentally pricks her nger with her needle, causing three drops of blood to drip onto the freshly fallen, white snow. She then says to herself, “How I wish that I had a daughter that had skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair as black as ebony.” A short while later, the queen gives birth to a baby daughter whom she names Snow White. Tragically, the queen passes away during childbirth.SNOW WHITE’S GARDENMany years later, the courtyard garden awakens to Snow White’s loving attention. She is surrounded by owers and her adoring bunnies, bluebirds, and butteries. In the garden, she unexpectedly meets a handsome stranger. They spend the day together before regrettably parting as dusk falls.EVIL QUEEN’S LAIR:THE QUEEN SUMMONS THE HUNTSMANSnow White’s stepmother, who took reign as the kingdom's queen after marrying Snow White’s father, consults her Magic Mirror to determine who is the fairest in the land. Expecting to hear herself declared the fairest, she is outraged when the Mirror reveals that Snow White is, indeed, the fairest of them all. The Queen sends her sirens to summon the Huntsman, and orders him to take Snow White into the forest and kill her.THE HUNTSMAN’S QUESTThe Huntsman greets Snow White in the Garden and convinces her to travel into the forest with every intention of completing his order by the Queen. However, her happy innocence overcomes him, and he nds that he is unable to take her life. Instead, he sends her deeper into the forest. As night falls, it grows dark and Snow White is frightened. She continues past terrifying sights until the morning light slowly appears, revealing a friendly-looking cottage.THE DWARFS’ COTTAGESnow White enters the cottage and nds no one home. Snow White tidies up the cottage and puts dinner on the stove before climbing into a plush bed to rest. The Dwarfs, the residents of the cottage, return home and awaken her. Delighted to have a guest, they introduce themselves: Brainy, Smiley, Timid, Snoozy, Sniy, Grouchy and Muzzy.synopsis
8synopsissynopsisEVIL QUEEN’S LAIR:THE SCARF WITCH TRANSFORMATIONBack at the castle, the Queen once again consults the Mirror, only to hear that Snow White still lives, sheltered by Dwarfs deep in the forest. The Queen disguises herself as a beautiful modiste selling handmade scarves and sets o for the Dwarfs’ cottage. IN THE FOREST WITH SNOW WHITE AND THE SCARF WITCHIn the forest outside the cottage, the modiste (Scarf Witch) enchants Snow White with beautiful scarves of dierent fabrics and patterns. After the modiste convinces Snow White to try on one of her designs, she secures the scarf tightly around Snow White, who, overcome by its evil magic, loses her breath. The Dwarfs return home to nd her lying on the ground and hastily unravel the scarf to revive Snow White. EVIL QUEEN’S LAIR:THE COMB WITCH TRANSFORMATIONUpon returning to her castle, the Queen learns that Snow White escaped the magic scarf. She decides to return to the cottage, this time disguised as a Merchant Woman, selling ornate jewelry and combs.IN THE FOREST WITH SNOW WHITE AND THE COMB WITCHThe Merchant Woman (Comb Witch) shows Snow White a beautiful comb and places it in her hair. Snow White is quickly overcome by its evil spell and passes out. When the Dwarfs return home, they nd Snow White lying in the grass. The Dwarfs remove the comb and she is released from its power. Worried about not leaving her alone, the Dwarfs draw straws to see who will stay to protect Snow White. Muzzy draws the shortest straw, so he stays behind as the rest go o to work. EVIL QUEEN’S LAIR:THE APPLE WITCH TRANSFORMATIONThe Queen again learns that Snow White still lives. In a fury, she ips through the pages of her wicked spellbook in search of a spell that Snow White and the Dwarfs won’t be able to thwart. The Queen discovers a spell for a poisonous apple and cackles with glee. With a shiny, very poisonous apple that looks too delicious for Snow White to resist, she disguises herself as a peasant woman and sets o to the Dwarfs’ cottage.
9synopsissynopsisIN THE FOREST WITH SNOW WHITE AND THE APPLE WITCHMuzzy and Snow White are enjoying a lovely afternoon in the meadow outside the cottage. The Queen’s sirens slip sleeping powder into his drink and unwittingly, he falls asleep. Without a dwarf to protect her, the peasant woman (apple witch) convinces the unsuspecting Snow White to take a bite of a beautiful, shiny, poisonous apple. SNOW WHITE IS LAID TO RESTThe Dwarfs again return to nd Snow White on the ground, but are unable to wake her. Furious with Muzzy, they confront him, only to nd that he was tricked with a sleeping potion. Saddened, they prepare a beautiful resting place and say goodbye to Snow White. Muzzy sneaks o in shame. VILLAGE OF THE PRINCEIn the market square, the villagers are buying and selling their wares. Muzzy enters and asks help from the locals to nd the Prince. When Muzzy has almost lost hope, the Prince arrives, and Muzzy explains the situation, requesting his help. THE KISS SCENEFollowing Muzzy, the Prince is led to Snow White, who he immediately recognizes as the lovely young girl from the Garden. He lovingly takes her hand, and much to everyone’s delight, Snow White awakens! True love has broken the spell of the poisonous apple! THE EVIL QUEEN BEGS FORGIVENESSDistraught, the Queen arrives and seeks forgiveness. The Prince and Snow White refuse, causing the Queen to disappear forever in a pu of smoke. THE WEDDING SCENESnow White and her Prince celebrate their wedding and they live happily ever after. Illustrations by Soa Brummitt

30BTC is thrilled to oer “The Sensory-Friendly Ballet.” This initiative oers Connecticut families the opportunity to experience BTC’s performances of The Nutcracker (December) and Snow White (April) at The Bushnell. All are welcome! The Sensory-Friendly performances provide a safe, judgment-free, relaxed environment for those who have sensory or other types of challenges that may make them feel uncomfortable at a “typical” performance. Music and on stage sounds are lowered, low level lighting is maintained for the audience and when warranted, adjustments to the production are made to ensure everyone’s comfort. Last season, over 400 families enjoyed this special production run of The Nutcracker and Cinderella at The Bushnell. With your nancial support we can continue to oer this opportunity for many years to follow. Visit dancebtc.org or click here to donate!"This is the rst time our entire family will see the show and that means more to us than I can say."Amy MessingerWest Hartford ResidentThe 2024 Sensory-Friendly performance of Snow White is sponsored in part by:

pointe shoe patronage Many thanks to Pointe Shoe Patron GOAL: BTC seeks to raise $10,000 to provide pointe shoes for its dancers for the entire Season 25. This funding will cover shoes for 16 total performances and the accompanying rehearsals. BTC’s dancers use 1-2 pairs of pointe shoes per week. Retailing at between $75 and $150 a pair, pointe shoes can pose a serious nancial barrier. With the help of our Pointe Shoe Fund and generous donors like you, we are able to subsidize the cost of pointe shoes for our artists and select students. Made by hand with satin, glue, and leather, each pointe shoe is created with care and precision. With over a hundred brands and styles, each shoe is designed to break down and mold to a dancer’s foot, allowing for those breathtaking moments we see on stage during BTC performances.Hardworking pointe shoes don’t last long. Some pairs will only last a single performance; others one week of rehearsals, or at most two. While we are proud of our eorts to increase pointe shoe funds for our dancers year after year, our goal is to establish a robust fund that will allow us to completely alleviate pointe shoe costs for all dancers under contract.click here to donate to the pointe shoe fundJo-ann Burke, BTC Company Dancer | Photo: Thomas Giroir32https://www.dancebtc.org/pointe-shoe-patronage
