SIP & Share News

Message

As a busy professional, we know it can be hard to stay up-to-date on everything happening back on Clemson's campus in SIP. We created this newsletter to help our Clemson sales community not only stay connected with our initiatives, but also offer ideas and stories relevant to your professional lives.

Each semester, we'll publish this newsletter to our community to bring you engaging and sharable pieces of content related to SIP and the sales profession. While we aim to provide interesting content for you to stay in touch with us and our focal initiatives, please feel free to submit ideas for content you would like to see in the future. We want this to be a channel that adds value to you and your own sales community.

One of the unique stories happening from this past year is our students’ focus on building memorable moments. While there is a lot of variety and excitement in the day-to-day for students and sales professionals alike, many days can be filled with mundane tasks that make it hard to stay engaged. Inspired by our SIP book club reading of “The Power of Moments” – by Chip and Dan Heath – our faculty and program managers have a new appreciation for building memorable milestones to engage their teams and communities. These milestones can elevate the start of something new (e.g., joining SIP, first day on the job) or build pride in reaching a goal (e.g., winning a sales competition).

Moving into Fall 2024, we will be rolling out new initiatives related to alumni as well as our burgeoning research team. Be on the lookout for announcements from our LinkedIn!

Looking forward to a great Fall!

Clemson University was the only school with all three competitors in the top 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire! We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hormel Foods for sponsoring this competition. Their support was instrumental in making this event successful and gave us the resources to create an engaging and competitive atmosphere.

As a member of the internal sales competition team of SIP, I am exposed to motivated, intelligent, and creative individuals whose influence has enriched my sales abilities. I am so grateful for the opportunity to build relationships with our established partners and professors, who put student development at the forefront of their involvement with SIP. I am excited to continue to learn from this program, and look forward to my future in SIP.”

Event Highlights Zach Goetz Message
Our Social Selling Competition is specifically designed to prepare students for LinkedIn prospecting in real-world scenarios. Participants are given a realistic prospecting situation and a targeted customer to engage. The competition consists of two rounds: in the first, students craft an effective InMail message and create a prospecting video. Finalists from this round then advance to a virtual video discovery call, where they apply advanced techniques to uncover client needs and demonstrate their sales acumen.

Our students participated in a three-round pitch competition with a topic of "Why should they hire me?". Finalists are given the opportunity to take the stage and pitch to a ballroom of fellow students and industry partners! We are so proud of every student who competed, as this will prepare them for real-life scenarios.

Thank you to all of our industry partners who judged and took part in this competition! Our students thoroughly enjoyed pitching and networking with you all. Congratulations to Courtney Sage and Graham VanPatten who tied for first place. Jack Harris and Alex Rogers won second and third-place titles!

The Tiger Paw Classic is a charity golf tournament sponsored by the J. Daniel and Nancy Garrison Sales Innovation Program. This event is a partnership between SIP students and Honors students interested in Event management. The sales students sell golf teams and sponsorships for the event.  The honors students execute the event. Funds raised from this event are donated to Ripple of One, a non-profit organization that empowers families to move beyond public assistance. A portion of these funds are also used to support scholarships and monetary awards for current Sales and Marketing students. This year, we raised over $30,000 for Ripple of One!

Message AI Expert Panel & New Ascent Cohort

The J. Daniel and Nancy Garrison Sales Innovation Program kicked off the fall 2024 semester with an engaging expert panel on Artificial Intelligence. Industry leaders shared valuable insights on how AI is revolutionizing sales by automating workflows, enhancing customer insights, and enabling personalized outreach. They emphasized that understanding and leveraging AI is essential to remaining competitive in today’s fast-evolving market. The panel sparked meaningful discussions, encouraging students to embrace AI as a powerful tool for driving innovation and growth, rather than fearing its disruptive potential.

AI Expert Panel Fall 2024 Ascent Cohort
