After losing a loved one to cancer, we know how crucial it is to helpfamilies cope with the invisible burdens that remain long after the treatment ends.Since Twila’s passing in December 2017, ourfamily has channeled our grief into action,uniting the community through sports tosupport others who are facing cancer. This year will be the 7th annual basketball tournament at Spotswood High School. Thetournament features 15 high school varsity and 7 junior varsity basketball teams from theShenandoah Valley and across the Commonwealth. This tournament brings in over 2,000 players and spectators over the course of three days -a great opportunity to make a big impact across the state. By 2030, more than 22 million cancer survivors will be living in the U.S.—26 million by 2040. Yet only 1 in 3 receives a care plan to address their long-term needs. Without intentional support, millions will be left to navigate life after cancer on their own. It’s common for the joy of remission to beshadowed by constant worry—everyache, every appointment carries theweight of ‘what if’.40% of cancer patientsexperience significantchallenges in their work andsocial lives due to ongoinghealth issues.
