STARTED FROM THE BOTTOM NOW WE HERE As Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”In 2006, a handful of Tulsans united around the idea that a cycling event could infuse a new kind of energy into the community; that they could create something fresh and vibrant and cool that could elevate Tulsa’s image. We didn’t know if anyone would come. We were nobody in a cycling landscape full of quality events with rich traditions. To make matters worse, Tulsa was seen as one of those yover cities with a dead downtown. And now? Well, as Drake says, “We started from the bottom, now we here.” Last year we had full elds of crit racers from 45 states and six countries and fondo riders from 25 states and three countries. We were honored when Criterium Nation named our Cry Baby Hill stage to it’s list of Monuments, the youngest of the group. Bicycling magazine named the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough to its top three list, saying Tulsa is “known as the three craziest days of bike racing in America.”The City of Tulsa has become one of the cool kids now with a vibrant downtown, great dining, and other attractions. We think that’s pretty awesome and hope you do, too. We hope you will nd this guide helpful and we welcome you to Notorious TUL.WELCOME TO THENOTORIOUSOur future is so bright, we gotta wear shades. 7SCAN MEHave you received approval for a 2024 Saint Francis Tulsa Tough media pass? If so, head to NEFF Brewing (321 S. Frankfort Ave.) and meet with Clare Paniccia (our Marketing, Content, and Social Media Manager). Clare will distribute your media pass and your media vest. ALL members of the Saint Francis Tulsa Tough media team must wear their media vest and identication while engaging in photography and videography over the weekend. To reduce congestion at the Start/Finish line, those without a media vest/identication are NOT allowed to enter the race course. This is not only for the safety of our riders, but also for your safety and the safety of our media personnel. We ask that you please respect this rule. NEFF Brewing has been our registration partner for more than 3 years. Every year, they graciously open their covered patio for our volunteers and riders. Stop in to try one of their top-notch brews or appetizers and enjoy a break from the heat! Fun Fact: all brews (and food) at NEFF are gluten-free. The criterium course loops through the Tulsa River Parks and surrounding residential area, oering unique views and photo opportunities. Cry Baby Hill is famously known for its false at, punchy gradient, and wild fans. In 2024, Criterium Nation, a podcast that covers criterium racing across the United States, named Cry Baby Hill as one of its Seven Monuments of Crit Racing. With high-speed descents and leg-busting climbs, the McElroy River Parks Criterium is an action-packed experience for riders and fans alike. It doesn’t get rowdier than this, folks. MAGAZINE 6Founded in 1954, McElroy manufactures the world’s leading pipe fusion equipment for the installation of thermoplastic piping used for wa-ter, sewer and natural gas distribution among other uses. A global leader with a commitment to its community, McElroy makes the world a better place through better infrastructure, one project at a time. The mission of the Tulsa River Parks Authority is to enhance community life through stewardship of parks and public spaces along the Arkansas River. The River Parks Authority maintains over 26 miles of asphalt trails.
