September 8, 2023ג״פשת לולא ב’’כ ךליו-םיבצנ תשרפ COUNTER WITH PASSION 6:48 PMDear Parents,The possuk states: וננבלו ונל תולגנהו וניקולא ׳הל תורתסנה. Privately committed sins are Hashem’s domain, and public sins are ours and our children’s. In a Sefer Torah, the words וננבלו ונל (for us and our children), have dots above them. The Chofetz Chaim explains that when a writer wishes to emphasize or stress a point, he will underline the important words. Similarly, the Torah, when discussing the importance of educating our children and raising them with proper values, places dots on the words וננבלו ונל. In essence, the Torah is underlining these words to emphasize the significance in Yiddishkeit of teaching our children how to be proper ehrlicher Yidden. Raising resilient, healthy, normal, ehrlich and inspired children is a daunting task. The challenges and outside forces competing for the attention and minds of our children are overwhelming. It thus behooves us to be correspondingly passionate and proud of our Jewish values to counter the tinsel and glitter that is attracting and trying to ensnare our children. The Shabbos and Yom Tov table, our davening, and our mitzvah performance must be passionate to counter passion with greater passion. The Torah writes ךערזו התא היחת ןעמל םייחב תרחבו. Choose life, so that you should live; you and your children. It seems like it would have been sufficient for the Torah to simply state choose life. When one chooses life, it seems obvious that he will live and his children after him. The phrase היחת ןעמל is superfluous. Rav Moshe Feinstein ל״צז, in the Drash Moshe, explains that the words ךערזו התא היחת ןעמל is not explaining the reason for choosing life, but is rather defining the life one should choose, a bechira that results in our children opting to follow in our footsteps. Emphasize the warmth and simcha that adherence to our values offer so that the children will want to follow in our path. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs●● September 12- Williston Back to School Night● September 15-17 - (Erev) Rosh Hashanah, No School● September 18- Fast of Gedalia; Dismissal for 6-8G-12 pm; dismissal for 6-8B- 12:30 pm● September 19- Preschool Back to School Night
