WELCOME! 6:34 PM September 16, 2022 כ ‘ב״פשת לולא אובת יכ תשרפ Monday, Sept 19 - Back to School Night for grades 1-8B Sun, Sept 25 - Tue, Sept 27 - (Erev) Rosh Hashana - No school Wed, Sept 28 - Tzom Gedaliyah, 12 noon dismissal for 5-8G, 12:30 PM dismissal for 6-8B Dear Parents, Welcome back to school! It is so special to see our lichtige kinderlach davening and learning. The לוקהרות and הליפת לוק emanating from the pure תומשנof our ןבר תיב לש תוקונית is truly a sight to behold. The dedication and commitment of our staff and their hours of preparation is very apparent. In this week’s Parsha we are introduced to the mitzva of תורשעמ יודיו, the confession of the tithes. Twice during the seven-year Shemitah cycle – on the last day of Pesach of the fourth and seventh year of the cycle – a Jew is obligated to verbally confess and declare that תיבה ןמ שדוקה יתרעב, I have removed and fulfilled my obligations regarding תומורת and תורשעמ. Ideally, תומורת and תורשעמ should be taken when the farmer harvests his crops and dispensed to the Kohen and Levi at that time. If this wasn’t done then, the farmer can remove the תומורת and תורשעמuntil Pesach of the fourth year and Pesach of the seventh year. At that point, the farmer recites the vidui, indicating he has discharged his obligations. The Mefarshim wonder why this mitzvah is termed יודיו confession. Confession denotes a lack – I was derelict in my obligation therefore I confess. In this case, the farmer only recites the יודיו after he has correctly removed the obligatory תומורת and תורשעמ. The ונרפס explains by noting that the original intention was for the firstborns to perform the הדובע In the aftermath of Chet HaEgel, the firstborn lost this privilege and the הדובע was transferred to Shevet Levi. The Kohanim and Leviim would now be the ones dedicated to Hashem’s service since they demonstrated their loyalty to Hashem by not participating in Chet HaEgel. The rest of Klal Yisrael were now charged with supporting Shevet Levi via תומורת and תורשעמ. Virtually every Jewish household could have had a firstborn dedicated to the Avodah. He would have been supported by his family and lived in Yerushalayim close to the Beis HaMikdash. The level of Kedusha generated by his position would have impacted his entire family and imbued them with the pride of supporting their own in-house Kohen who was completed dedicated to ׳ה תדובע. This then is the deeper meaning of רשעמ יודיו . When a Jew pronounces תיבה ןמ שדוקה יתרעב he is acknowledging that he has caused the removal of Kedusha from his household by participating in לגעה אטח. He acknowledges the tremendous loss of having the privilege of an in-house Kohen. As parents there are so many opportunities for us to bring Kedushah into our homes, infuse the household with the simcha of Mitzvos, Shabbos and Yomtov. Let us ensure that we take advantage of these opportunities and don’t Chas Veshalom find ourselves regretting that תיבה ןמ שדוקה יתרעב. !תבש טוג Rabbi Ochs Welcome to school year 5783!
