My Favorite Neighbor began as an homage to founder Eric Jensen's original favorite neighbor, Stephan Asseo ofL’Aventure, and since has grown to include a handful of other surrounding neighbors on Paso Robles’ west side.Stephan is a close friend and mentor to Eric. For the entire first year they were friends, each time Stephan calledhe would refer to himself as Eric’s "favorite neighbor“. The title was a self-fulfilling prophecy, and in 2006, Ericcrafted a cabernet-based wine to honor his friend Stephan and his Bordeaux roots. What began as an homage toone person has turned into a movement of many. My Favorite Neighbor makes wine in a collaborative spirit withtheir family and neighbors to be enjoyed with your own neighborhood. Their wines are created by sourcing thebest, meticulously farmed fruit from a collection of neighboring vineyards as well as their own, because theybelieve it takes a village to make great wine. The farmers who own the vineyards from which MFN wines aresourced are salt of the earth people with a singular goal: to grow the absolute best grapes their sites can produce.Every site that contributes to MFN wines is farmed using organic and sometimes biodynamic practices. These old-school values are fused with a winemaking approach that is driven by science and cutting-edge technologywithout concentrates, shortcuts, or compromises.

ST. FRANCIS WINERY & VINEYARDSSonoma County Old Vines ZinfandelThere are strict criteria in the vineyard for fruit to qualify asold vines Zinfandel. The vines must be at least 50 yearsold (m any are as old as 100) and they must be dry farmed,and head trained without the benefit of trellising. Theseancient, head pruned vines tend to produce smallquantities of exceptionally concentrated fruit. The grapesare hand picked, crushed and t hen fermented in stainlesssteel tanks.
