After a round of golf, our guests gathered at theEagles Hall to continue the celebrations with dinner, dancing and auctions! We felt immensecommunity support with over 30 local sponsors and 72 Auction donors!We are proud to announce that this year's tourney raised $63,000 in support of ourChildren's Grief Services and Programs in Campbell River and surrounding areas. We want to give a great big thank you to the Rennie family, our supporters, guests, sponsors and volunteers. Without all of you, this tourney would not be possible. END-OF-LIFE COMPANIONING As part of our support team at Hospice, we have several highly trained volunteersavailable to provide comfort, support, companionship, and an emotional connectionto those at end-of-life. Our compassionate, kind and selfless volunteers are available to join a family andtheir loved one at the Hospice Beds in Yucalta, the Hospice Suites at Evergreen, inthe Hospital or the privacy of a person's home. For more information on Hospice Beds and Volunteer Companions, please callHospice at 250-286-1121.GRIEF SUPPORT WALKING GROUP"You will find the way, daughter of the forest. Through grief and pain, through manytrails, through betrayal and loss, your feet will walk a straight path" - Juliet Marillier.Walk beautiful local trails and be present with your grief in a safe environmentsupported by our Lead Clinical Counsellor, Leslie Haynes-Hodgins M.S.W., R.S.W. andknowledgeable volunteers. Feel the open space of nature around us and release yourgrief with others experiencing loss. Our volunteer trail expert, Marcus, will help younavigate new and accessible trail systems in the community. Every Tuesday, meet at 10 am at 440 Evergreen Rd. Please dress for the weather. This group is open to everyone, welcomes all mobility levels, is pet friendly andis provided at no cost. This group is open to those affected by the loss of a loved one and is heldevery 3rd Friday as a drop-in group, located at our Hospice Care Centre 440 Evergreen Rd at 1:00 pm. FAMILY CAREGIVERS DROP IN SUPPORT GROUP"You have two hands. One to help yourself and one to help others" - Audrey HepburnNavigating community resources can be difficult while supporting a lovedone diagnosed with chronic illness. The CRHS Family Caregiver SupportGroup supports caregivers by providing access to information, education and resources in a safe andconfidential environment. Attendees will also find support from others with similar caregiving experiences.The group meets on the second Friday of each month from 10 am - 12 pm atthe Campbell River Hospice Care Centre, 440 Evergreen Road. Focusing on drawing simple repetitive shapes may provide some“downtime” from all the other things going on in your world. In the home where Cindy lives, no dogs are allowed, so she mustbundle puppy up when she goes to work as a cleaning woman in theHospice. One patient is so blind with illness that he can barely see thedog; it looks like a smudge. Her kind nature and gentlepersonality give our clients a sense ofsafety and peace. Carol is an irreplaceable asset toHospice as she provides Reiki, as aCertified Reiki Practitioner, to ourclients from the comfort of ourHospice Care Centre. "I was drawn to Hospice because Iwould like to offer the support andcomfort to others that I would hope tohave at the end of my own life." -Carol.Thank you to all of our wonderfulvolunteers who gave their time toassisting Hospice with Events andFundraising this summer!

Do you have an interest in the Hospice concept and have the desire to help others? Do youhave some awareness of what is drawing you to Hospice work and are willing to explorethis in-depth?Are you sensitive to the special needs of dying patients and their families and have chosento work to support them?You are aware of the losses you have experienced, your way of grieving and have a senseof perspective about life and death, loss and grief. If you have experienced a significantpersonal loss within the past year, one which you are still actively grieving, please considercarefully your present ability to take on a demanding training program. This work canintensify your own grief. We will review each applicant individually in this regard.This fall, we will be hosting our annual Hospice Volunteer training session with our LeadClinical Counsellor, Leslie Haynes-Hodgins M.S.W., R.S.W. Are you interested in becoming a Direct Volunteer? A Direct Volunteer is an individual who provides compassionate psychosocial support tothose facing end-of-life or grieving the loss of a loved one. CAMPBELL RIVER HOSPICE SOCIETYP A G E 1 0It all started five years ago when seven dedicated community leaders saw a need in ourcommunity and formed the Hospice Build Team. Brian Stamp, D'Arcy Frankland, JimDobinson, George Stuart, Garry Griffin, Brett Giese and Jill Hanson. At the time, theCampbell River Hospice Society struggled to offer services due to a flood in a rentedbuilding. The Hospice Build Team understood the critical need to provide Bereavement and PalliativeCare in our community, so they made it happen! Because of their commitment, CRHS hasbeen successfully providing exceptional quality care since. The outstanding commitment ofthese individuals will continue to support thousands of individuals well into the future. The Hospice Care Centre Project will forever be a pillar example of a compassionatecommunity and the importance of caring for each other at end-of-life. The Hospice CareCentre is an incredible gift to our organization and has enabled us to grow exponentially,enabling us to pivot our services to meet our communities needs. The beautiful propertyoffers a relaxing and comfortable environment for our clients to heal. This is the house thatlove built. The need for Children's Grief Support at CRHospice is higher than ever.
