SEAWOLVES FIELD STAFFGABE ALVAREZMANAGERABOUT THE SKIPPERGabe Alvarez is in his third season with Erie. In 2023, he led the SeaWolves to the franchise’s first Eastern League crown. Before joining the Tigers system, Gabe spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach with the University of Southern California. Gabe was selected in the second round of the 1995 amateur draft by San Diego. After three seasons in the minors, he was selected by Arizona in the 1997 Expansion Draft and traded to the Tigers. To provide a welcoming experience for all, the Erie SeaWolves have implemented a Fan Code of Conduct. Out of respect for fellow Guests, players, coaches, and ballpark staff, all guests are prohibited from:• Trespassing on the playing field at any time;• Interfering with baseballs that are in play;• Throwing or tossing objects on the field or at another fan;• Using foul, obscene or derogatory language or gestures;• Misusing or overconsuming alcohol, including, underage consumption;• Smoking inside the stadium;• Behaving in a manner that is disruptive, unruly, or abusive;• Accessing areas of the ballpark without a proper ticket or pass;• Misusing tickets, passes, or credentials in any way; or• Bringing prohibited items into the ballpark (as noted at entrance).Derogatory language is defined as offensive language concerning a person’s race, ethnicity, gender, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, or national origin, and anyone using such language is subject to automatic ejection from the ballpark. Violations of the Fan Code of Conduct will not be tolerated and may lead to ejection from the ballpark, a ban on attending future games, or other consequences. Guests who are found to have used derogatory language will be ejected from the ballpark.Guests are encouraged to report violations of the Fan Code of Conduct to the nearest ballpark staff member. PROSPECT PROFILETROY MELTON | RHP | #21The Tigers drafted Melton in the fourth round in 2022 believing there was more in his big right arm than the former catcher had shown over his career at San Diego State. That potential began to emerge in 2023, when Melton settled in behind Jackson Jobe in the High-A West Michigan rotation. His fastball has crept up to the mid-90s since turning pro, and he can reach back for upper-90s when he needs it. He has a low-80s slider that he can command, and added a harder pitch that acts like a cutter. He also has a mid-to-upper-80s changeup to work off the fastball. After drawing a ton of ground balls in Lakeland, his fly-ball rate soared last year, comprising more than 40 percent of balls in play at West Michigan. Despite a few high-walk games, his command improved, and he drew some impressive called-strike totals down the stretch.Melton has the look and arsenal of a future Major League starter, but he still has some refinement to do to get there.
