The School of Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC) is the ofcial school of Ballet Theatre Company (BTC), offering classes for students ages three to adult, from beginner to advanced levels. Its carefully-constructed curriculum emphasizes strong technique, proper alignment, musicality, and expression. Through a faculty of distinguished professionals, its ballet instructors incorporate the best of the French, Italian, and Russian training methods in a nurturing and supportive classroom environment that fosters the development of young artists. Whether SBTC’s students dance for fun, exercise or dream of becoming professional dancers, SBTC’s curriculum prepares students physically and mentally to embrace their next adventure, cultivating discipline, friendships that will last a lifetime, and an appreciation for the art form. In addition, the students share a facility with the professional company, enriching each student’s experience by allowing them to observe those dancers in classes, rehearsals, and performances. Students are also offered opportunities to perform with the professional company in productions such as Stephanie Dattellas’ The Nutcracker.overviewthe ron and nancy compton studio1

Please note that any caregiver (grandparent, nanny, etc.) important to your dancer should be added to SBTC’s school email list; especially if that person is involved in drop-off or pick up.

8the junior corps de balletBTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet is a unique opportunity for serious dancers to train at a high caliber, experience professional dance at a young age, and, if interested, prepare for a future in dance. Entrance to the Junior Corps de Ballet is by audition only (dancers placed in Pointe II and up are eligible), and the selected dancers and apprentices rehearse repertoire, are given several performance opportunities, and are exposed to choreographic processes with BTC’s Artistic Staff and guest artists. Members and apprentices of the Junior Corps de Ballet learn the importance of discipline and goal setting, leadership skills, working well with others, and professionalism in and out of the performing arts world. BTC Artistic Staff emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition, self-care, and positive body image among this elite group of students and aims to create a safe environment for the dancers to grow technically, artistically, and personally. In addition to training and rehearsing alongside fellow members of the Junior Corps de Ballet, select members of the Junior Corps de Ballet may be invited to attend Company Class with BTC’s company of resident dancers each Saturday, prior to rehearsals for upcoming perfor-mances (apprentices and any members not joining company class will attend SBTC class on Saturday mornings). Attending weekly company class alongside local professionals is an exceptional opportunity for members of the Junior Corps de Ballet that will inspire the dancers to reach new levels with their technique and artistry. Members and apprentices of the Junior Corps de Ballet will also have the opportunity to regularly experience a professional rehearsal environment alongside the professional dancers while preparing for large stage productions.REQUIREMENTSMembers and apprentices of the Junior Corps de Ballet are required to:• Attend a minimum of one full week of the Junior Corps de Ballet Preparatory Intensive (August 7-11 and August 14-18)• Enroll in weekly Junior Corps de Ballet class (one per week) and Company Class (one per week - if applicable)• Enroll in all required technique classes of the appropriate level at SBTC• Three in-studio technique classes per week• One in-studio pointe class per week• One in-studio variations class per weekSEASON DURATIONThe season of the Junior Corps de Ballet will mimic that of BTC’s professional company, running from August 23, 2023 - June 17, 2024.FEES AND MORE INFORMATIONFor full information about the Junior Corps de Ballet including program fees, visit: www.dancebtc.org/junior-corps-de-ballet8

10class offerings for 2023-2024In addition to Ballet and Pointe, SBTC is thrilled to include Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Strength and Flexibility in its class curriculum. Further plans are in development to expand the program to offer students one workshop or master class each month that focuses on other important facets related to dance training, including: nutrition and injury prevention, ballet and dance history, costume design, and more. OTHER CLASS DESCRIPTIONSJazzJazz classes offer a combination of commercial and Broadway-style aesthetics, further developing dancers’ versatility and overall performance quality.Contemporary Contemporary will be an exploration of gravity in movement, oor work, and improvisational skills. Dancers will take the time to expand beyond classical technique and play with weight, shapes, and dynamics. Dancers placed in Ballet III and up are eligible to enroll.Hip HopHip Hop with P- Boogie is a Beginner level dance class focusing on the fundamentals, techniques and foundations of Hip Hop Dance/Freestyle Dance. Students will learn and develop an understanding of the many dynamics, levels, grooves, as well as styles that all interact within the genre of Hip Hop Dance/Freestyle Dance. At the end of this course, Students will walk away with an understanding of the history and fundamentals behind Hip Hop/Freestyle Dance and the importance of self expression within the dance style!Strength and FlexibilitySBTC highly recommends that all dancers participate in a regular cross-training/strengthening and exibility regimen to support healthy muscle development while training. This class will support dancers’ ballet technique and reduce the risk of common dance-related injuries.SBTC level placement policyStudents are placed in class levels for the duration of the academic year according to their age and ability at the discretion of SBTC’s Artistic Director and faculty. Unlike traditional schooling, students move through the levels of a dance training program at their own pace, and it is not uncommon to repeat a level for one or more academic years. Our goal is to provide each student with a solid dance foundation that allows for individual success and accomplishment, and all student placements are carefully considered by SBTC’s Artistic Director and faculty to help reach this goal. Dancers enrolled in training at SBTC should follow the schedule requirements to best support success in their designated training division and class level.

The tting offers pointe dancers (students and professionals) in the community an opportunity to experience a professional tting. There are up to three tting spots available per each time slot (30 minutes) and ttings cost $10/dancer. Online registration, including completed payment, is required in order to reserve a tting. A proper tting pointe shoe is crucial for dancer safety and well-being while dancing en pointe, so it’s imperative that dancers are t by trained professionals for their rst pair, and that they periodically return to be re-t, especially as they continue to grow and mature. “Getting the correct t is essential to preventing strain and potential injury,” says Cara Milo, owner of Beam & Barre. “Core strength, proper alignment and positioning of the foot in the shoe are just a few of the elements we assess when nding the best shoe for you.”Pointe Shoe Fitting DateAugust 20, 2023 - 11:00-3:00pmJanuary 7, 2024 - 1:00-4:00pmpointe shoe fittings

Please note that if conditions change, SBTC has the right to adjust its policy as needed. CODE OF CONDUCT SBTC is committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment for its students. SBTC understands that bullying creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation which is distracting from the organization’s mission and may lead to more serious issues of violence. Anyone who witnesses or experiences any act of bullying by a SBTC student should report it to their teacher or staff member immediately. SBTC holds a zero tolerance policy for bullying. All complaints of bullying will be investigated and addressed. For SBTC’s full Code of Conduct please visit our website at www.dancebtc.org.ATTENDANCE Regular attendance is required and very important for all dancers (in-studio and virtual) to progress successfully. Classes that a dancer misses in-studio/remote may be made up in a level below their placed level. It is not SBTC’s responsibility to make arrangements for students to make up missed classes. If a student misses four or more classes in a term without making up those classes, it is at the Artistic Director’s sole discretion to move a student to a lower level until makeups are completed. For the 2022-2023 class-year, special exceptions may be made due to local, state, or federal guidance related to the current pandemic. CLASS CANCELLATIONS SBTC has the right to alter or cancel any classes offered for situations that may occur including, but not limited to: insufcient enrollment, faculty availability, inclement weather, etc. If SBTC cancels a class due to inclement weather, dancers and families will be notied through email, Facebook, and BTC’s website. artistic directorStephanie DattellasAmong the characteristics that make SBTC’s training program and faculty attractive is its history of instilling self-condence in our young artists; starting by meeting them where they are at and empowering them to believe in their own potential. We understand that bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that one method of learning doesn’t click for every student. I am proud that our faculty exposes dancers to multiple ballet methodologies, creating well rounded dancers. - Stephanie Dattellas, Artistic DirectorStephanie Dattellas is an accomplished professional dancer, choreographer, director, and teacher. Her training began with Ballet and Dance of Upstate NY, Inc., under the direction of Kathleen Rathbun, and continued professionally performing with companies such as Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Buglisi Dance Theatre and others. Ms. Dattellas has in-depth experience developing dancers’ technique, strength and artistry and is passionate about cultivating artists beyond their technique. She joined Ballet Theatre Company as Artistic Director and General Manager in June 2017. Dattellas’ choreography includes The Nutcracker, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Aladdin.
