The School of Ballet Theatre Company (SBTC) is the ofcial school of Ballet Theatre Company (BTC), offering classes for students ages three to adult, from beginner to advanced levels. Its carefully-constructed curriculum emphasizes strong technique, proper alignment, musicality, and expression. Through a faculty of distinguished professionals, its ballet instructors incorporate the best of the French, Italian, and Russian training methods in a nurturing and supportive classroom environment that fosters the development of young artists. Whether SBTC’s students dance for fun and exercise, or because they dream of becoming a professional dancer, SBTC’s curriculum prepares students physically and mentally to embrace their next adventure, cultivating discipline, friendships that will last a lifetime, and an appreciation for the art form. In addition, the students share a facility with the professional company, enriching each student’s experience by allowing them to observe those dancers in classes, rehearsals and performances. Students are also offered opportunities to perform with the professional company in productions such as Stephanie Dattellas’ The Nutcracker.1overviewthe ron and nancy compton studio

8the junior corps de balletBTC’s Junior Corps de Ballet is a unique opportunity for serious dancers to train at a high caliber, experience professional dance at a young age, and, if interested, prepare for a future in dance. Entrance to the Junior Corps de Ballet is by audition only (dancers placed in Pointe II and up are eligible), and the selected dancers and apprentices rehearse repertoire, are given several performance opportunities, and are exposed to choreographic processes with BTC’s Artistic Staff and guest artists. Members may also be considered for the opportunity to dance alongside professional dancers in large stage productions. Members and apprentices of the Junior Corps de Ballet learn the importance of discipline and goal setting, leadership skills, working well with others, and professionalism in and out of the performing arts world. BTC Artistic Staff emphasizes the importance of proper nutrition, self-care, and positive body image among this elite group of students and aims to create a safe environment for the dancers to grow technically, artistically, and personally. *NEW This Year!* Members of the Junior Corps de Ballet attend Company Class with BTC’s newly-established company of resident dancers each Saturday, prior to rehearsals (apprentices attend SBTC class concurrently). Attending weekly company class alongside local professionals is an exceptional opportunity for members of the Junior Corps de Ballet that will inspire the dancers to reach new levels with their technique and artistry. Having a resident company will additionally provide members and apprentices of the Junior Corps de Ballet with the opportunity to experience a professional rehearsal environment.

10class offerings for 2021-2022In addition to Ballet and Pointe, SBTC is thrilled to include Jazz, Contemporary, and Dance Conditioning in its class curriculum. SBTC will offer all in-studio classes with a remote option to accommodate families who still wish to train at home. Please contact the School Administrator by September 5th if you wish to train remotely for the 2021-2022 Academic Year. OTHER CLASS DESCRIPTIONSJazzJazz classes offer a combination of commercial and Broadway-style aesthetics, further devel-oping dancers’ versatility and overall performance quality.Contemporary Contemporary will be an exploration of gravity in movement, oor work and improvisational skills. We’ll take the time to expand beyond classical technique and play with weight, shapes and dynamics.Dance ConditioningDance Conditioning is a strength and exibility focused class structured to support dancers’ ballet technique training and reduce the risk of common dance related injuries. BTC highly recommends that all dancers participate in a regular cross-training/strengthening and exibil-ity regimen to support healthy muscle development while training. SBTC level placement policyStudents are placed in class levels for the duration of the academic year according to their age and ability at the discretion of SBTC’s Artistic Director and faculty. Unlike traditional schooling, students move through the levels of a dance training program at their own pace, and it is not uncommon to repeat a level for one or more academic years. Our goal is to provide each student with a solid dance foundation that allows for individual success and accomplishment, and all student placements are carefully considered by SBTC’s Artistic Director and faculty to help reach this goal. Dancers enrolled in training at SBTC should follow the schedule requirements to best support success in their designated training division and class level.
11Placement en Pointe is by invitation only for the Student Division and carefully considered and determined by SBTC’s Artistic Director in collaboration with the SBTC faculty. Dancers who are placed en pointe and wish to enroll in pointe classes are required to enroll in all of the ballet classes offered at their level. No exceptions. 14school policies and protocolsThe health and safety of students, administrators, and faculty has and continues to be the highest priority and concern. Therefore, SBTC has updated its protocols to continue in-studio training that allows for inclusion and access for all students. SBTC has relied on guidance from the CDC, State of Connecticut, sources that have established protocols for opening dance studios during COVID-19, institutional knowledge and experience, and guidance from individuals who practice in the medical, legal, and educational professions. SAFETY PROTOCOLSAs we continue to navigate the pandemic, we will implement the following guidelines for all students as we return to in-person instruction for the safety of our students and staff. We do anticipate that as public health guidelines change to reect the evolving status of the pandemic, we will reassess our guidelines as appropriate. We thank you for your support and cooperation.Anyone who fails to adhere to these protocols will lose privileges to participate in studio classes, no exceptions. If you do not feel comfortable with these protocols for an in-studio dance experience, SBTC will continue to offer a remote option for your dancer. However, please note that in-studio class instruction is preferred for the continued development of all students. 1. Masks must be worn at all times. Surgical face masks permit the greatest air ow during exercise. Only plain cloth masks (with no added words, statements, or symbols) will be acceptable while in the studio. 2. Washing and sanitizing hands. Dancers must wash their hands/use hand sanitizer upon entering and will be encouraged to wash and sanitize throughout their time at BTC. 3. Students will be asked to assist in wiping down ballet barres. We are pleased to announce that SBTC’s student/parent lobby, ofce and common areas will reopen for the year.CODE OF CONDUCT SBTC is committed to providing a safe, positive learning environment for its students. SBTC understands that bullying creates an atmosphere of fear and intimidation which is distracting from the organization’s mission and may lead to more serious issues of violence. Anyone who witnesses or experiences any act of bullying by a SBTC student should report it to their teacher or staff member immediately. SBTC holds a zero tolerance policy for bullying. All complaints of bullying will be investigated and addressed. To fully read SBTC’s Code of Conduct please visit our website at www.dancebtc.org.
15ATTENDANCE Regular attendance is required and very important for all dancers (in-studio and virtual) to progress successfully. If a dancer misses a class, it is their responsibility to make up for the missed class. SBTC’s School Administrator must be contacted prior to a dancer attending a makeup class. Classes that a dancer misses in-studio/remote may be made up in a level below their placed level. It is not SBTC’s responsibility to make arrangements for students to make up missed classes. If a student misses four or more classes in a term without making up those classes, it is at the Artistic Director’s sole discretion to move a student to a lower level until makeups are completed. For the 2021-2022 class-year, special exceptions may be made due to local, state, or federal guidance related to the current pandemic. CLASS CANCELLATIONS SBTC has the right to alter or cancel any classes offered for situations that may occur including, but not limited to: insufcient enrollment, faculty availability, inclement weather, etc. If SBTC cancels a class due to inclement weather, dancers and families will be notied through email, Facebook, and BTC’s website. 25Among the characteristics that make SBTC’s training program and faculty attractive is its history of instilling self-condence in our young artists; starting by meeting them where they are at and empowering them to believe in their own potential. We understand that bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that one method of learning doesn’t click for every student. I am proud that our faculty exposes dancers to multiple ballet methodologies, creating well rounded dancers. - Stephanie Dattellas, Artistic DirectorStephanie Dattellas is an accomplished professional dancer, choreographer, director, and teacher. Her training began with Ballet and Dance of Upstate NY, Inc., under the direction of Kathleen Rathbun, and continued professionally performing with companies such as Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Buglisi Dance Theatre and others. Ms. Dattellas has in-depth experience developing dancers’ technique, strength and artistry and is passionate about cultivating artists beyond their technique. Dattellas joined Ballet Theatre Company as Artistic Director and General Manager in June 2017. Since joining the company, Dattellas choreographed and premiered Cinderella (Spring 2018) the rst full-length ballet presented by BTC, The Nutcracker (December 2018), Sleeping Beauty (Spring 2019) and Snow White, a live action ballet lm which premiered in June 2021. artistic director Stephanie Dattellas
facultySBTC has a diverse faculty with training and experience in major ballet methodologies including Vaganova, Royal Academy of Ballet, Cecchetti, and Balanchine. SBTC believes that while classical technique should be the foundation of a dancer’s training, it is equally important that dancers be exposed to multiple methodologies and dance forms while establishing their own artistic voice. Ballet Theatre Company (BTC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-prot organization that has served the Greater Hartford area for over 20 years. The organization was founded in 1999 as a professional performing ensemble that toured the state of CT delivering classical and modern repertoire.Three years following the company’s inauguration, BTC accepted the invitation of the University of Saint Joseph (formerly known as Saint Joseph College) to stage its rst production of The Nutcracker at the Hoffman Auditorium in the Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities. In that same year, BTC established its Community Youth Outreach Program, that now serves over 1,000 children annually through four educational and cultural programs spreading the joy of dance to those who otherwise would not have the opportunity. In 2015, the company established its training school, now known as The School of Ballet Theatre Company, that offers pre-professional and recreational dance education for ages 3 to adult. In 2018, BTC produced its rst, full-length ballet during its Spring Season which has propelled the company to establish a full season including three intimate in-studio performances, a community benet performance, an annual professional production The Nutcracker, and a storybook, full-length spring ballet production. After 22 years of providing high-quality arts experiences to the Greater Hartford community, BTC is thrilled to announce the inauguration of a company of resident dancers for its 23rd performance season.MISSIONBallet Theatre Company enriches the greater Hartford area by offering professional caliber dance productions, dance education for ages 3 to adult, and dance-related workshops free of charge to children who otherwise would not have the opportunity through BTC’s Community Youth Outreach Program.30
