It’s Thanksgiving 2024, and I don’t know about you, but I could use a nap. It’s been quite the year and it’shard to believe it’s already time to drag out the Christmas lights that worked when I put them away lastyear, but won’t when I bring them out this year. What happens in storage, anyway? But here we are again, embarking on another holiday season. And outside of the new blockbustermovie “Hot Frosty” (yes, it’s real, and it’s crazier than you are imagining), we’re back to our usual stunts:decorations, cookie exchanges, secret Santas, holiday programs- anything we can add to our schedulesto prove that yes, it IS the most wonderful time of the year. Now, what can I get Sandy from accountingthat says, I recognize you from the hallway AND this was within our $10 allowed gift exchange budget? Each year, I try and settle on a message to focus on for the holiday season. We’ve had so many- ShopLocal Now So You Can Shop Local Forever, Think Outside the Big Box, When You Shop Local You GiveMore Than a Gift- some real inspiring stuff, if I do say so myself. This year, inspiration has been a little harder to come by. Post-summer, post-election, post-Malone (Ithrew that last reference in for the kids, just to prove I can still #slay) - this year has been full of exhaustingthemes and sometimes it seems inspiration is miles away. Personally, it’s been a trying year (I think I’mjust a broken-down truck away from actually living inside a country song), and for a minute thoughts of atheme titled “Shop Local or Die” lingered, but only momentarily. Because there is one thing that givesme hope, year after year-our community.So, here’s the message this year: (steps on soapbox) SHOP LOCAL, FOR LOCAL’S SAKE. Over the years,we’ve told you all the reason it’s good to shop local. You know them -creating jobs, keeping moneycirculating within the local economy, fostering a sense of place, providing unique products andpersonalized service, and often having a smaller environmental impact due to reduced transportationneeds. But also- it’s just good to shop local just for the simple sake of liking your community and the placesthat are in it. Over the past year, we’ve seen some beloved local businesses leave the community, for avariety of reasons. So, in an effort to keep your local community, well, local and unique, we’reencouraging you to get out this holiday season and support the small businesses you love.And due to advancements in technology (thank you, nerds!) most small, local businesses can evencompete with the convenience and ease of online shopping by hosting online shopping experiences oftheir own! I mean, did you know, we have our own full online shopping experience atgobeyondrunning.com? And we offer free local delivery? AAAAND we won’t throw your packages in yourneighbors bushes? It’s true! And it’s not just us! Many of our local small biz friends have online shoppingsites. So when you get the urge to scroll (I was gonna say “surf the web” but then I realized that sounds old,right?), DON’T FORGET- for many small businesses, YOU CAN EVEN SHOP LOCAL ONLINE!But, we also love to see your smiling faces in our shops this time of year!
