8 years in the making, the inspiring story of DJ Sam Divine: WHAT IS MARRIED TO THE MUSIC?A personal life story, life of being a DJ, origins of House Music, equality for women, politics of dance, politics of sex and more…Over the last 8 years, from 2015 - 2023, we followed DJ Sam Divine, the First Lady of British House Music who gives us a female perspective of the industry, opening up about her love of raving, her rise to fame in the face of inequali-ty, misogyny, addictions to drugs, drink, and struggles with mental health in a relentless and unforgiving industry. From the Warehouse to WestonThe film intertwines Sam’s personal story with three main narrative strands: Origins: The why and how dance music came about in the gay clubs of Chicago and how this new youth culture filtered into the UK via Manchester, creating the first mega clubs at the Hacienda and the acid house exploding into the queer dance scene. Politics: The Draconian reaction from the political elite against the new young culture of dance music and punitive laws restricting clubs and raves forced the scene underground. The desire of young people to play their own music gave birth to Pirate Radio and a new generation of DJs, becom-ing another challenge to the law. Equality: Connecting with Sam’s personal journey, we look at the obstacles for other female DJs from various backgrounds in an industry described as boys’ club where only 1 in 10 of DJs in the top 100 are female. Ultimately, what binds all this together in spite of everything is the empowering, all-equal love of Music and the love of Dance.

Tatevik has recently worked on the award-winning production Taniel, featuring Sean Bean, and is currently adapting Iris Murdoch’s The Italian Girl. She is also currently editing the Wasafiri magazine’s 2024 Autumn issue and is a member of BAFTA.Noosh B started her YouTube channel in 2015, where she has built a following of 35k with over 14 million views for her vlogs and productions.
