Salerno Through The Years 1962 Salerno began in 1962 in a Secondary Top with 11 pupils in an upstairs classroom in Scoil Ide Ardnamara Salthill Sr Stanislaus was the Principal Pupils studied core subjects plus French Latin Art and Home Economics 1963 1965 First Year had 8 pupils Choir orchestras and debating were very much part of the early Salerno school days The Secondary section of the school 1st Years 2nd Years and 3rd Years were relocated to the house known as Salerno on Revagh Road Salthill The new school had 65 pupils enrolled First Principal Mother Claudine Hayes
Salerno Through The Years 1971 Increasing numbers of students were accommodated in prefabricated classrooms on the grounds of Salerno Revagh Road The curriculum extended with a Science Room Music Room and Commerce Room in the basement of Salerno House 1972 Principal Sr Emer Mulderrig 1973 1978 A strong Parents Committee was formed in 1973 They worked tirelessly with staff to lobby and fundraise to obtain a new school for Salerno Salerno teaching staff Principal Sr Veronica Heffernan 1979 Building work commences on the New School on Threadneedle Road

Salerno Through The Years 2000 June Smith assisted by her husband Mike directed four big fundraising ventures over eight years and raised 100 000 for the School Development Fund 2002 Deputy Principal Maura Carter retired having worked with five Principals from 1965 2002 Deputy Principal Margie Connolly 2005 Sr Rose Kelly goes to work in Haiti promoting education for children and providing self empowerment opportunities to vulnerable families 2008 Inauguration of the Emily Feeney Award Generosity Of Spirit Award for a Leaving Cert that displays a spirit of Generosity in memory of Emily who died of Cystic Fibrosis
Salerno Through The Years 2011 A 1 million extension to the school was completed in September The 12 classroom development provided much needed additional space for the school 560 pupils enrolled Transition Year begins in Salerno 2012 Salerno celebrates the Golden Jubilee and the 100th Anniversary of the arrival in Ireland of the Sisters of Jesus and Mary Inauguration of Creativity Award for a 4th Year student This was established in honour of Jane Hogan who retired in 2012 and embodied creativity during her time in Salerno 2014 Deputy Principal Marie Flannery 2015 Salerno introduces trousers as an option to the school uniform 2018 Salerno Sports Hall is officially opened Salerno can now provide a complete PE programme on site for the school s 675 students
