This iscommonly referred to as environmental, social, and governance (ESG)considerations.Businesses are being held accountable for their actions and are facingincreasing pressure from stakeholders, including customers, investors, employees, and regulators, to operate in a responsible and sustainableway. Companies that prioritise ESG factors are seen as more attractiveto these stakeholders, which can lead to better business outcomes, suchas increased profitability, reduced risk, and improved reputation.Environmental considerations involve reducing the negative impact onthe environment, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, conserving resources, and implementing sustainable practices. Socialconsiderations involve addressing the impact on society, such asensuring fair labor practices, protecting human rights, and promotingdiversity and inclusion. Governance considerations involve ensuringtransparency, accountability, and ethical behavior in all businessoperations. In summary, the integration of ESG considerations has becomeincreasingly important for businesses to remain competitive and meetstakeholder expectations. By addressing these issues, companies cancreate a positive impact on the environment, society, and governancewhile also benefiting their bottom line.9

In terms of specific salary trends, there has been an increase in salaries forhighly skilled workers, particularly in areas such as engineering, projectmanagement, and architecture. This is due to the ongoing demand forskilled workers in these fields, as well as the increasing complexity ofprojects. At the same time, there has been some downward pressure on salaries formore junior roles, as companies look to reduce costs and streamline theiroperations. Overall, we have started to see salaries stabilising as less jobsare available and the war on talent is slowly ending.Bonus schemes have also become common and typically average around15% - 30%. However, the amount can vary from role to role. In the lastfinancial year, we saw an average bonus payout of roughly 60-70%. Thisindicates that bonuses are a significant part of the compensation packagefor employees in these industries, and individuals can potentially earn asubstantial amount beyond their base salary. It is important to note thatbonus payouts can vary depending on factors such as individualperformance, company performance, and other variables.Employee benefits have also undergone some changes in the property, development, and construction market in Australia. In terms of flexibleworking arrangements, companies are wanting to see their employeesback at the office 5 days a week, however,it still remains a priority forcompanies to recognise the importance of providing their employees withgreater work-life balance. There has also been an increased focus on mental health support, withmany companies offering employee assistance programs and mentalhealth resources to help their employees cope with the challenges posedpost-pandemic.WWW.GOUGHRECRUITMENT.COM.AU12

Clients are prepared to paymore for these skills, however many roles are left unfilled due to the lackof talent in the market. As we head into the new FY and we continue to experiences increasesin interest rates and the media continues conversation about theconcerns for the economy, candidates and clients are acting cautiously.Through partnering, clients providing thorough briefs and continuallyworking on their remuneration and benefits we have had some greatsuccess in making the match and filling roles.WWW.GOUGHRECRUITMENT.COM.AU21

Candidates in 2023 have heard so muchabout salary increases that they are coming to us seeking a lift on salaryand this is still happening, but has levelled out in 2023.OVERALL SALARY% CHANGE.34

The roles in Property and Real Estate that are still very much in demandinclude Property Managers, Asset Managers, Development Managersand Project Managers , Sales & Marketing, Facilities Managementandthere is still a huge candidate shortage in these areas. We are findingthere are a lot more candidates in the market from a land, builder or offthe plan sales background, in line with the slowing in these sectorshowever most markets are still candidate tight. For 2023, we see a normalising in the market, post covid. We are seeingan influx of candidates from overseas, but these candidates don’t haveReal Estate or Property experience, so there is still a shortage in theseareas with local experience. We believe that talent will continue to betight in these sectors and salary increases will happen occasionally, foroutstanding candidates however bonuses (STI’s) are now the talkingpoint and at what % talent will receive of this %.Working from home is also changing – many clients are now offeringreduced working from home options than they did in 2022 and weexpect this to continue tightening with offices returning 4 days perweek.35

Although salaries saw significant growth towards the end of 2022, thistrend has slowed, particularly in Residential Property Management. Moreover, candidates who accepted higher salaries are now back onthe market, as the demand for their roles and larger portfolios hasincreased. We anticipate a similar level of demand for both temporary andpermanent positions for the rest of the year. However, property priceshave decreased in recent months, leading to a reduction in demand forSales Administrators and PAs. Nevertheless, we receive daily requestsfor Property Managers, Buyers Agents, and General Administrators. With the stable Commercial, Retail, and Industrial agency sector, employers are taking advantage of the opportunity to hire new LeasingExecutives and expand their teams. Junior or inexperienced Executivescan benefit from this opportunity to enter the market.61

The temporary/contract recruitment market for the real estate, property, development, and construction sectors in Australia has seensteady growth over the past few years. The construction industry, inparticular, has been a significant contributor to this growth due to theincreasing number of infrastructure projects and the demand for skilledlabor in the sector. In recent years, the property and real estate sectors have also beencontributing to the growth of the temporary/contract recruitmentmarket in Australia. As property developers seek to manage costs andavoid the risk of overstaffing, they have increasingly turned totemporary and contract staff to fill short-term positions or to providespecialized expertise on a project-by-project basis. Moreover, with the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, manycompanies in these sectors have turned to temporary and contractstaff to manage fluctuations in demand and to reduce costs.
