Moonlight Canyon Attracts Residents from Across the U.S.

Moonlight Canyon Overview

 There’salotofmomentumatSaguaroRanch,

includingabout15homesthatareintheprocessof

construconandseveralthatarerecentlynished.

MoonlightCanyon,ournewsubdivisionwithin

SaguaroRanch,has43lotsbetweenoneandthree

acreseach—manywithspectacularcanyonviews

ofthemountains,andsomewithcitylightviewsof

downtownTucson.

 AswenishupphasethreeoftheMoonlight

Canyonsubdivision,ourteamispunginunder-

groundulies(likewater)anddryuliessuchas

 IfyouspendanymeinArizona,you’relikelytosee

thegracefulmuledeermunchongrass,stridemajes-

callythroughthedesert,andevenleapoverfences.

FolksfromtheMidwest,easternandnorthernstatesof

theU.S.willndthesebeaufulcreaturesfamiliar;the

muledeerlooksquitesimilartothecommonwhitetail

deerthatinhabitmostofNorthAmerica,butthemule

deerinhabitsonlythewesternGreatPlains,Rocky

Mountains,andsouthwestU.S.

 Namedforitsears,whicharelargelikethoseofa

mule,thereareafewkeydierencesbetweenawhite-

tailandamuledeer.Earsize(muledeerearsarebigger),

tailcolor(amuledeer’stailisblackpped),andantler

conguraon.Ratherthanbranchingfromasingle

mainbeam,aswhitetaildeerantlersdo,themuledeer’s

antlersarebifurcated,thatis,they“fork”astheygrow.

Althoughtheyarecapableofrunning,youwillseemule

deer“stong”or“pronking”throughthepicturesque

landscape,whenallfourfeetcomedowntotheground

together.

 I’vebeeninvolvedwithSaguaroRanchfor25yearsnow.We’vecomealongway,

throughsometoughmesandsomegreatmes(nowbeingaparcularlygoodmeas

newhomesarebeingbuiltandnewresidentsjointhecommunity).Allthoseyearsago,I

wastaskedwithndingapropertythatwassetinthetranquildesert,surroundedbyna-

turebutnottoofarfromaninternaonalairport.Isearchedbycarandbyplane(I’vebeen

apilotforover60years)andseledontheparcelsthathavenowbecomeSaguaroRanch.

 Ihavewalkedeveryacreofthis1,200acreproperty,andIwaspresentwhenthe600-

footlongtunnelwasiniallyblastedtocreateabreathtakingentranceintoSaguaroRanch.

Wewereallstandingontheotherendwhentheyblewoutthelastchunkofrockandyou

couldnallyseethrough;itwasabigcelebraon.

 ThroughmymewithSaguaroRanch,Iamproudtosaywehaveremainedtruetothe

originalvisionofcreangasereneretreat,completelyintunewithandinspiredbythenat-

uralworld.I’mexcitedtowatchthisveryspecialplancometofruion.

 Recently,SaguaroNaonalPark—just13milesfromSaguaroRanch—wasnamed

thenewestUrbanNightSkyPlacebytheInternaonalDarkSkyAssociaon.Thisis

excingbecauseit’sonlythesecondnaonalparktoreceivesucharecognion.The

InternaonalDarkSkyAssociaonwasstartedandisheadquarteredinTucson,

Arizona,whichiscalledthe“astronomycapitaloftheworld”becausemanyofthe

nestobservatoriesintheworld(includingMt.Lemmon,Mt.Graham,KiPeak,and

theStewardObservatory)arehere.Protecngourdarkskiesisamaeroflocalpride!

 AtSaguaroRanch,proximitytonatureisthenameofthegame,whichiswhyover

80%ofthe1200acrepropertywillremaincompletelyuntouched.It’swonderfulto

seethebroadercommunityembracingthedarkskyguidelinesandtakingonanaonal

parkmindset!
