This exotic bird is mistaken for a penguin, but it is not, this sea bird has the ability to only swim 200 feet underwater, but they can also fly. In order to lift the puffin’s 17.5 ounce body and send it rocketing through the sky at around 55 miles per hour it must have a 20-24 inches wing span and be able to flap its wings around 400 times per minute!
In addition to being able to fly and swim, the Atlantic Puffin looks adorable. This is because, they have a black suit, but a white belly, and their multi-colored bill, or beak, makes them irresistible to most humans. In addition to this, the Atlantic Puffin has bright, glowing orange feet and bright glowing orange eyes that put you in a trance when you look at them!
Unfortunately, humans are jealous of this bird, that has the cuteness of a penguin (and abilities of a penguin) AND can fly, so the penguins are threatened by, who but, the killer species of humans. One of the reasons Atlantic Puffins are still here today is because they live for twenty years, and each year they mate (usually with the same penguin as the year before, I don’t know how they find each other after a whole year of being apart, but usually they find each other) and have one baby penguin. There is a chance that that baby Atlantic Puffin can die and that would make it even worse, because if humans cause hundreds of breeding puffins to die and there is no replacement for them, Atlantic Puffins would become endangered then become extinct!
