News from the General Manager...

Welcome to the first of a monthly update from the General Manager's desk

Dear Member,

The new financial year has seen a flurry of activity with the introduction of the Member Hospitality Account. The restaurant has seen a great level of patronage during the lunchtime period and also of a Friday evening whilst the recent French themed dinner was an outstanding event with over 150 Members and guests in attendance. Many more Member events are scheduled for next month and leading up to Christmas which presents a great opportunity to utilise the Hospitality Account, and providing the opportunity to meet new Members and forge friendships whilst having a great deal of fun.

Please don’t forget that you can also use your Hospitality Account for purchasing takeaway wine from the Club. Currently, we have a delicious 2013 Sandhurst Ridge Shiraz, a dry climate wine from the Bendigo region in Victoria at $25.00 per bottle / takeaway. A monthly Sunday brunch is also going to be trialled, which will hopefully see Members bring friends to enjoy a relaxing start to a lazy Sunday or perhaps a hearty breakfast before a round of golf.

Whilst a date has not been decided upon, the Board and management have recently considered a range of events to be held during November as a grand opening for the Westbourne course and a return to a 27 hole course. The Members and Guest event will encompass a ‘Grazing Tour’ of the new nine with a range of food and beverage stations on several holes allowing Members the freedom to walk the course and stop for  canapes and a beverage. The event will culminate with a cocktail evening at the Clubhouse overlooking the 10th and 18th holes. Further details will be provided in due course.

News from the General Manager...

August sees the closure of the course for renovations between the 22nd and the 26th, whilst the Members Lounge and Restaurant will be open as per normal. During the closure a minor renovation of the Golf Shop and Spike will be undertaken which will see the glass walls removed and the area opened up into one space. These changes will improve the flow of traffic through the area and also improve floor space, improving the range of merchandise and hardware on display. The Golf Shop and Spike Bar will then have new carpet installed as the old carpet has definitely passed its use by date.

I trust you will enjoy the improvements and I look forward to seeing you at the Club.

Kind regards,

  - Andrew Casey

Digger Pine on 1st Hole

Our Club Arborist Rua Wall has advised us that a Digger Pine on the 1st hole, on the left side of the fairway, is about to fall.

Please avoid the area which has been roped off to prevent Members walking through the fall zone.

This tree will need to be removed to avoid potential injury to Members.

This week the golf course has been in full swing with repair works to bunkers through the construction site. Ben Chambers from Kustom Bind has arrived and is shelling out the remainder of the bunkers for the rock installation. The greens from 1 through to 9 have received a light dusting of sand to facilitate thatch control and smooth surfaces.

Broadleaf weed spraying has also begun through the construction site and will continue through the front 9 later this week. Over the coming days we will be looking at the sand depths in the front 9 bunkers to accommodate any balls from plugging into faces as this has been a problem of late.
