Ai m s o f t h e r e s e a r c h The study aims to better understand Summary of the Research We are currently recruiting secondary schools to be involved in a research study and would like to invite your school to take part The study is part of a programme of research on issues relating to equality in education with a focus on gender stereotypes and norms at school Students school related attitudes beliefs and behaviours How masculinity and femininity norms may influence these How adverse effects of such gender norms and stereotypes could be reduced When is the research taking place January February 2023 Af t e r t a k i n g p a r t Findings from this research will be shared with the schools that participate in the project We also aim to share findings across the educational community more widely e g at conferences and in academic journals It will not be possible to identify individual students or schools in the results we share Who can take part Year 9 students Further year groups can take part if your school is interested i e Years 7 10 This research has been approved by the University of Greenwich Research Ethics Committee All information provided in the research will be kept securely and confidentially What is involved Students complete an online questionnaire during class e g PSHE could work well We have been conducting research with schools for many years and look forward to working with you in this study Takes about 30 mins We are interested to learn more about students attitudes toward school their beliefs about effort achievement and ability and their goals and motivations We are also keen to understand how gender norms could affect some of these attitudes beliefs and behaviours and how to challenge gender stereotypes and norms that students face Bonny Hartley School of Human Sciences Faculty of Education Health and Human Sciences University of Greenwich Students complete the study on computers or laptops Working across The Centre for Thinking and Learning The Centre for Vulnerable Children and Families The Centre for Inequalities
