Renewing Today through Diversity candace tannous Our first Pentecost Sunday at St Cuthbert was both an introduction to a wonderful St C tradition and a taste of heaven About a dozen members of the congregation gather in a half circle behind the lector at the microphone The lector reads the famous passage in Acts chapter 2 in English while the others read the same passage in various languages such as Portuguese German Yoruba Punjabi French Spanish Japanese Vai and Tagalog The re creation of that miraculous moment touched me deeply Now my husband Paul happily joins the half circle on Pentecost Sunday to read in Arabic What a blessing to find such a diverse congregation This dear church with its members many cultures and languages illustrates so beautifully how we are united by one Spirit called by one hope one Lord one faith one baptism one God and Father of all Ephesians 4 3 6 I look forward to the time when every knee shall bow and in all languages on earth we confess that Jesus Christ is Lord Renewing Today through Ministry desiree villanueva Our entire family myself my husband Hugo and our sons Josh and Jacob have had the privilege of serving as part of the Altar Guild ministry for about five years now This ministry has provided our family with a means to serve God together as a unit with a common purpose As we work together to put away the sacred items used in the service it gives us time to pause and let the day s message further sink in before rushing into life outside the walls of the church It is but a small way to give back to a church that has been a big blessing to our family just one of God s many blessings to us Renewing Today through Outreach emma alexander I founded the Blessing Bottle ministry to extend kindness and generosity to the homeless so that they too would know that they are loved and not forgotten I organized the collection and assembly of basic essentials into Blessing Bottles for distribution I believe that kindness benefits the one extending it just as much as the one receiving My hope was that the members of St Cuthbert Church would seize the chance to extend God s grace to others Wow did my congregation step up to the call I felt immense pride to see my vision become reality and the goal for donations met after just two weeks I felt pride as the Youth Group gathered to assemble over 200 bottles On distribution day in a matter of an hour five massive tubs filled to the brim with Blessing Bottles emptied one by one to be given to those in need all around the city St Cuthbert Church met and exceeded all my expectations with its willingness to reach out with God s love and the impact has been real Renewing Today Through Finding Home kobena andah My wife and I joined St Cuthbert Church in 2004 when it was located on Willow River Drive I was baptized and confirmed as an Anglican back home in Africa When I first came to Houston I visited a couple of churches looking for a home Then someone told me about St Cuthbert Church On my first visit I was introduced to a parishioner and with his guidance and support St Cuthbert became our church home All three of my children have been baptized here My family and I love St Cuthbert Church and are blessed to serve in a congregation that reflects who we are We applaud the exceptional leadership and are grateful for the wonderful opportunities to grow in our faith The Andahs are thankful to have found a home May God bless us all Renewing Today through Community sylvia newby My husband Rick and I consider St Cuthbert our church home This community was especially crucial to us in September 2017 after the massive flooding from Hurricane Harvey We were displaced from our home as was my daughter April and her children Our St Cuthbert community stepped up to assist us my daughter and others that were affected in many different ways Members from St Cuthbert helped my daughter clean and salvage what she could We had been out of the country and our St Cuthbert friends were there for us when we returned They also helped us salvage what we could They prayed with us and for us brought meals cleaned what could be saved and packed boxes to go to storage People we barely knew were there We both found new homes by November The St Cuthbert community donated clothing furniture appliances gift cards and more It did not end there at Thanksgiving and Christmas our church gave food and goodie baskets to us and others who had been displaced We will be forever grateful for all they did during a very difficult and overwhelming time Thank God for St Cuthbert Church Renewing Today through COVID debra rieke My great nieces live with their parents in Ashland Massachusetts When I first heard that St Cuthbert s Vacation Bible School VBS was going to be virtual I thought how great it would be if they could participate It would be a way to bring us closer and let them learn more about Auntie Debbie s church Julia agreed that the girls could take part so we signed them up and our Children s Minister Beth Micek mailed a full package off to Massachusetts First there was the thrill of big boxes and beautifully wrapped supplies for each day and then new topics crafts songs and stories My niece shared fun pictures and comments daily I think I spent the week wearing the kind of goofy grin when you are pleased and proud and thankful all at once What a wonderful experience for my family
