It is easy to get distracted whenbuying eyeshadow. With so manypressed pigment palettes to choosefrom, it is no wonder that most of usend up with more make-up than wewill ever use. As a rule, choose a palette with a goodmix of mattes and shimmers and withjust one or two glitters. Mattes areimportant so try to find a palette thathas a choice of shades that can beused as a base colour and in or abovethe crease. Mattes are also great forsmudging and using as a liner. SHELF LIFE: Generally, eyeshadowpalettes are good for a year onceopened.TIP: Follow us on Twitter@CareRegime for deals on topeyeshadow palettesWhat you will needREGIME

www.regimeskincare.co.uk | 9E Y E S H A D O W T U T O R I A LWhy Use A Primer? There are lots of reasons why aprimer should be used. Here are justa few of them...Smooths the skin: A primer will ironout those wrinkles and make thecrease easier to work on. It will alsooffer a sheer base for pigments, making them easier to blend. Thinkof it as minimising imperfections fora silky, even base.Makes eyeshadow stay put longer:For an all-day or all-night look, youwill need a primer as well as a fixingspray. A primer helps to lock incolour.Helps stop eyeshadow fromcreasing: For a flawless look thatdoesn't streak or crease, a primer isa must. If you've gone to the troubleof applying eye make-up, you don'twant it to disappear or shift afterjust an hour or two, do you?How Much Does EyeshadowPrimer Cost? That depends on how much youwant to spend. A premium primerwill set you back between £10 and£14. Think along the lines of UrbanDecay and NYX. Don't want to sendmuch on a primer? The good news isyou don't have to. Barry M's LidLock costs around £5. If you reallyhaven't got the cash to spend on aprimer, use a concealer. Apply with a brush and pat until youhave achieved even coverage. Waita minute or two before applyingeyeshadow. Tip: We especially recommend youuse a primer on your eyelids if youare prone to oily skin or havemature skin.Primer how-tovideo by TooFaced

Take a look atthe pans in your palette and find alight, neutral shade. Use the angledbrush to apply it across your lid, intothe crease and up to the lower partof the brow bone. Make sure theshade you use is a matte. This isespecially important if you havemature skin as shimmers canhighlight fine lines and creases. As well as setting your primer, thisbase coat will help when it comes toblending darker shades and give youa natural finish. If you are not surewhat light shade to go for, think ofpale peach, cream, a very light tan orwhite. Use light strokes with thebrush. There is no need to press thebristles hard against the skin andalways tap the brush after loading itwith pigment to avoid fallout. Next step...We are going to use four eyeshadow shades in this tutorial. If you aren't sure how topair colours, here's a great explainer from Sharalee's Box of Chocolates.
Next up is the transition shade. It isalways darker than the base colour. Ifyou are a beginner, we recommendusing a light to medium pigment. Forthis technique, you will need a fluffyblending brush. Blend lightly, moving the brush to and fro in anupward motion. Avoid taking thecolour all the way up to the brows.Keep working that brush for ablown-out finish that has no clearedges. You should be aiming toachieve a soft, blurry look with theupper shading blended to perfectionwith the base shade.Important: Do not take thetransition shade to the corner of theeye or onto the socket. Once youare happy with the effect you havecreated, you can move onto the nextstep. If you get stuck or think theshade you have applied is too dark, you can carry on and learn fromyour mistake (you may even like theend result) or remove what youhave applied and start again.Remember, practise makes perfect!Next step...Alexandra Anele shares in-depth tips on eyeshadow blending.

www.regimeskincare.co.uk | 17E Y E S H A D O W T U T O R I A LThe CreaseThis part of our tutorial deals withnot just the crease but also theouter corners of the lids. Using yourprecision or angled brush, apply thethird shade to the outer section ofthe lid, extending the colour into thecrease. Using the fluffy blenderbrush or smudger, blend with thetransition shade. Use light upwardstrokes. The aim is to ensure thecrease shade gently blends into thetransition colour. You want toachieve a graduated effect with noharsh or obvious shade lines. By taking the darker shade into thecrease, you will give the eyes depthand definition. It's contouring forthe eyes. We recommend youpractise blending as often as youcan. Once you've mastered it, therewill be no stopping you! It is themost important technique to get togrips with, so it's worth putting inthe effort.Next step...If you've got hooded lids, watch this tutorial on creating a cut crease by AngelaBright.

For thefinal part of this tutorial, you willneed a shimmering shade or (ifyou're ready to party) glitter. Werecommend you use your fingers forthis final step, but you can use anangled brush if you want to.Start by patting the shade into thecentre of the eye lid. Use yourblending brush to gently move it tothe inner corner of your eye. If youhave mature skin, you may want toleave the light base coat there andsimply blend the lid shade towards it- stopping short of the actual corner. You can also blend the lid shadetowards the outer lid. Finish off your look with lashings ofmascara. You can also line the lowerlid with either your transition ordarkest shade using the precisionbrush. That's it!
