Neighborhood Crime Prevention Safety Tips Always call the police when you see or suspect a crime in your neighborhood Contact the Greenville Police Department at 252 329 4300 non emergency Lock your car day or night and remove anything that may appear valuable What is Community Watch Crime Prevention is Everyone s Business Community Watch is a program under the Greenville Police Department s Community Outreach Division The goal of Community Watch is to make criminals aware that they are being watched and will be reported to police Preventing crime and keeping our community safe is not just a job for police It involves neighbors working with each other and with law enforcement to reduce crime and victimization in your community Law enforcement officers cannot be in every neighborhood 24 7 Citizen involvement is necessary to combat crime On average there are approximately two police officers for every 1 000 residents You and your neighbors are the ones who really know what is going on next door on your block and down the street It takes all of us working together in partnership to protect our families our homes and our neighborhood How To Start A Community Watch In Your Neighborhood Begin by contacting the Greenville Police Department s Community Outreach Division at 252 329 4339 Contact every resident in your neighborhood Schedule a meeting with all neighbors where you typically meet or find a convenient location where you can gather Invite the Greenville Police Department s Community Outreach Division to visit your meeting to discuss the program and help get the Community Watch program started in your neighborhood 2018 NAB Brochure indd 2 What is Nextdoor Nextdoor is a private social network that neighbors and communities use to build happier stronger and safer places to live You can quickly get the word out about break ins find a lost pet organize meetings and much more To learn more about Nextdoor please visit nextdoor com Install an alarm system Most homeowner insurance policies provide a discount to homes who install an alarm system Keep outside lights on or utilize motionsensor lights at night Use dead bolt locks on your doors and secure your windows Keep bushes and shrubs trimmed Don t hide a key outside burglars know all the secret hiding places Be a good neighbor and watch out for each other Tell a neighbor if you will be away on vacation or out of town for a few days If you go on vacation stop deliveries or have one of your neighbors collect your mail and papers Request Greenville Police Department to watch your property by calling 252 329 4300 11 15 18 3 16 PM
