Famous for its creation of the National Sexual Assault Hotline, RAINN has helped prevent the rapes and assaults of over two million people. They've developed multiple services to benefit victims and help support them through their struggles, including an anonymous, 24/7 communicator online.

In 1994, Scott Berkowitz founded the Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network (RAINN) in hopes of creating a better, sexual-assault free world.

"The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help victims, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice."

the serious crimes that they are, even going as far as advising the White House to create a plan to prevent college campus rapes and improve the criminal justice response if any should take place.

As of 2014, RAINN has been urgently pushing colleges into taking more protective measures to ensure the safety from sexual assault for their students. The organization has continually stressed the importance of treating sexual assaults on campuses as

Being the largest sexual assault and rape prevention organization within America, RAINN has many members of its team working in the state and federal governments to prevent assault and ensure justice for survivors. Not only did they create the federal hotline for sexual assault, but also actively do the following:

  1. Lead the national effort to end the rape kit backlog while also playing a major role in the Rape Kit Action Project.
  2. Maintain the Laws in Your State database, which contains up-to-date information for those seeking information and an understanding about sexual assault.
  3. Work to improve the nation's response to rape by working closely with the Departments of Justice, Education, and Health & Human services.

In one month alone, RAINN's National Sexual Assault Hotline helps to emotionally support and defend over 16,000 people. Since it's beginning in 1994, over 2.5 million Americans have benefited from the services RAINN provides. By supporting this organization and helping to bring awareness, you can help people get out of sexually abusive homes, prevent future rapes, and ensure the justice for victims that is very rarely ever granted.

"Every 98 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. Only 6 out of 1,000 perpetrators will face the criminal justice system."

Supporting RAINN and the victims of sexual assault doesn't have to end with spreading the word. By donating only one dollar a day, you can help educate 15,000 people monthly about rape prevention. When you're giving to RAINN, you're not sustaining the organization-- you're giving back to the victims.
