Congratulations! We are at the halfway point of the year with our focus on UPLEVELING… it’sa good time to check in. How is your leveling-up game going for you? It’s never too late tostart and it’s always a good time to pick up and dust off those goals that may have fallen bythe wayside. Your goal-journey is your own and you can decide today is your day! Let’s talk Intentionality. In relation to Upleveling, Intentionality goes hand in hand. I woulddefine Intentionality as being deliberate in your actions with a laser focus on the detailsrequired to get to a desired end result. [My definition, not Google’s]. I think the wordintentional has meaning. There is an element of strength and measured control to beingintentional. This example might bring it home for us…I was recently at a seminar, and the concept of intentionality was discussed in relation to therestaurant business. There are many parallels between the restaurant industry and ouroperations; both are rooted in service and hospitality. And similarly to our own success, arestaurant’s success hinges on intentionality and attention to detail. The speaker presented astory of a New York restaurant called Eleven Madison Park. The brand-new owners werethrilled when they made the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world. Certainly, to make atop 50 anything in the whole wide world list is pretty remarkable and no small feat. They wentinto the evening of the awards ceremony wanting to be anywhere on the list but number 50…when you’re number 50 out of 50 you simply don’t know how far away the performance of #51is. They took home the prize of #50 restaurant that night with excitement but alsodetermination to do better in hopes of making the list the next year. They already had the dream location, the beautiful ambiance, and the perfected menu…. Sowhat was missing? What was going to be the secret sauce to take a pretty darn goodrestaurant at #50 and make it even better? Intentionality. Every detail from the napkins tosilverware, and restrooms to the reservation system had to be looked at through the lens of,“let’s take this really great thing…. Uplevel it, and make it even better.” The entire diningexperience had to be looked at from the guests' perspective at every touch point and everydetail had to be deliberately considered. And there lies the concept of upleveling through intentionality. For you and I, intentionality isa choice to be found in every aspect of our lives: how we use our time, how we show up forour co-workers, how we fulfill our responsibilities, how we care for our buildings, and how wetreat our residents are all choices we make. Intentionality means deciding in advance how wewant to show up and then consistently acting in accordance with that decision. For Eleven Madison Park, their intentionality journey began with the goal of taking home thatgrand prize trophy, and along the way became so much more than that. And in theirintentionality mission, they landed Eleven Madison Park as the best restaurant in the worldthat very next year. Certainly, the accolades are an honor… but more importantly, I believe, the idea of laying your head down at night knowing you did your very best that day byintentionally being your best is the very best Upleveling we can do. The Minnesota legislative session concluded on May 19,2024, bringing with it several changes to Chapter 504B -the statutory chapter that governs Minnesota landlord-tenant law. These updates and changes will impact variousaspects of our rental agreements, resident interactions, andproperty management practices. The majority of thesechanges will be effective January 1, 2025. In response to these statutory revisions, At Home's legalteam is currently reviewing the updated statutes and newlaws to ensure At Home remains in compliance with thenew regulations. Over the next few months, our Legal teamwill be coordinating with regional offices to providedetailed updates and training sessions on the specificchanges and their implications. We understand these changes can be overwhelming (andfrustrating), especially after getting used to the numerouschanges from the 2023 legislative session. Our legal teamremains committed to supporting our leasing and propertymanagement teams to ensure you are equipped with theknowledge and tools necessary to make your offices runsuccessfully while remaining in compliance with MN law. Please stay tuned for further communication from Legalregarding the schedule and content of these trainingsessions.LEGALDEPARTMENTUPDATES05
