Ideally they would come for at least 3 visits one at each different part of the day so that they can experience each part of the school day and what to expect before they begin.morning block (8:45 - 10am)middle block (10:30 - 12:20) afternoon block (1:10 - 2:15)It is also recommended that you schedule your visits, if possible, across the week so that both you and your child have the opportunity to engage with both teachers prior to your child starting school.Children who are enrolling with us are welcome to attend for a full day each week for the 3 weeks before they turn 5 (parents do not need to stay for these full days but are welcome to), these full days can occur following the first 3 visits at which a parent or whanau member must stay with them.Days for which visits are to occur are flexible, we can work in with you and your availability. Please contact me or the school directly using the information on the back of this pamphlet to arrange visits for your child.In Pukeko class, from the time students arrive at school each morning until morning tea time they will have the opportunity to conduct learning investigations as they direct their own learning through Purposeful Play.Research shows that play has a wide ranging number of benefits including the ability to help bridge the gap between early childhood and the often more ‘formal’ school programme.A variety of activities will be on offer each day within the classroom to reflect the interests and needs of the students across a variety of areas including:-construction activities -writing activities-dramatic play-art-box construction-tinkering and deconstruction-reading and language-math concepts-sensory activities-science / nature tableAlongside these there will also be physical development opportunities offered each day with an activity available to support and develop the children's balance, fine motor control and visual eye tracking which are areas of physical development needed for learning.After morning tea time each day we continue our learning with more structured literacy, numeracy and cross curricular lessons. Your child beginning school is a huge milestone and one that we want to try and make as smooth as possible for both them and you.Our New Entrant classroom is known as Pukeko Class.Pukeko Class is taught by myself, Mrs Veronica Masters and Ms Jordan Reihana.
