The National Rifle Association

A web booklet by Elliott Suggs

The NRA was created by Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate in 1871. Their original mission statement was  to promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis, this progressed to the creation of ranges, promoting education of and about firearms, and fighting to protect people's 2nd Amendment rights.

Origins of the NRA
