    There is only a small amount of snakes. This happened when the mongoose was transported to jamaica to get rid of a plain field of rats in 1872, but instead of eating almost all of the rats it ate almost all of the snakes. This is why it is rare to find a snake in jamaica.

     Kingston was founded in 1692 after Port Royal was destroyed by an earthquake. The the old city is a rectangle with streets in a grid pattern. In 1703,the city was the commercial capital, and in 1872 it turned into the political capital of Jamaica.

     The style of government in Jamaica is democracy.The House of Representatives has 63 members elected for a five-year term and the senate has 21 members, 13 are chosen by the Prime Minister, and eight are chosen by the Leader of Opposition. The governor is Andrew Holness.

     There was a population of 2.705 million in 2006 and a population of 2.881 million in 2017.

      The Blue Mountains are the highest mountains in Jamaica. The Blue Mountain Peak can reach up to 7402 ft.

      The Limestone Plateau takes up 2/3 of Jamaica.


      The eastern part of Jamaica has mountains, the central part of Jamaica has valleys and plateaus, and the coastal part of Jamaica has plains.

Clarendon is dominated by the Vere plain.






In Port Antonio, temperatures can reach up to 79o degrees fahrenheit. The wettest recorded rainfall was 2,968 mm. 


In Ocho Rios, temperatures can reach up to 84° degrees fahrenheit. The wettest rainfall had an average of 171 mm of rain.

     The Devon House is said to be the national monument of Kingston.

    Rose Hall Great House was built to make slaves work on sugar plantation.

     Crushed limestone production increased from 3.2 million metric tons in 1992 to 3.3 million metric tonnes in 1994. High purity limestone production increased to 52,359 metric tons in 1994.

There is 14% percent of petroleum in Jamaica.

Aluminum oxide is Jamaica's biggest industry of 38%

Coconuts were introduced to Jamaica by the Spanish settlers
