One of my favorite quotes about education comes from the Talmud when Rabbi Yehoshua proclaims there is no house of study without innovation Chagigah 3a Little did I know when I began my role as Director of Learning and Educational Innovation a year ago just how much innovation would be required in this year unlike any other While COVID 19 has certainly presented its challenges to our own house of study it has also pushed us to refresh our traditional programs in new and exciting ways We have launched a new approach to Hebrew better aligning our Hebrew learning goals with our greater vision for Youth Education and integrating its curriculum into all our programs We are responding to the moment with a brand new program that lifts up the home setting nurturing the whole family with Jewish content particularly relevant to our current times We have merged our former middle school program models to create a singular rich cohort building experience for 6th and 7th grade pre B nei Mitzvah students And we are redoubling our efforts to engage our teens piloting a new program for 8th 12th graders that will connect and empower our adolescents allowing them to build community when they need it most In this unusual time of great uncertainty we want Youth Education Programs at Beth Am to be a place where our young people feel safe supported and connected This year will look different than last year but our incredible teaching team will be here with you and for you We re excited about all the innovations that will help Jewish learning and community become even more relevant to our lives We hope you ll join us Beth Am Youth Education Team Sarah Lauing Director of Learning Educational Innovation slauing betham org Alex Lyon Youth Education Program Director PreK 5th Grade alyon betham org Chelsea Mandell Teen Education Program Director 6th 12th Grade cmandell betham org
