Subtraction Example:

Step One: 4x+7=19

Step Two: 4x+7-7=19-7

Subtract the 7 from both sides to keep it balanced and then simplify 19-7 which will be 12.

Step Three: 4x=12     4x/4=12/4

Divide both sides by 4 then the simplified answer on the right side of the equal sign will be your answer.

Step Four: x=3

Simplified answer.

Two Step Equations:

Step One: isolate the variable on one side of the equation.

Step Two: Keep the equation balanced. What you do to one must you must do to the other.

Step Three: Divide the constant from the variable.

Step Four: Simplify.

Addition Example:

Step One: 26=8+v

Step Two: 26-8=8+v-8

Subtract the 8 from each side so that on the right side of the equal sign the 8's will cancel out and then on the left side of the equation will be your answer.

Step Three: 18=v

Division Example:

Step One: 16=k/11

Step Two: 11*16=k/11*11

Multiply both sides by 11 so that the side with  the k will cancel each other out.

Step Three: 176=k

Fraction Example:

Step One: 2/3x=12

Step Two: 3/2*2/3x=12*3/2

Multiply both sides by 3/2 so that on the left side of the equal sign the faction will cancel out and then on the right side once its simplified you'll have the answer. When you have a variable and a fraction together you multiply the fraction by its recipient which in this case is 3/2 and then you multiply the 12 by 3/2 also and you simplify the 12 and 2 which will be 6 and 1 then you multply the 6 and 3 which gives you 18 over 1.

Step Three: x= 18

Simplified answer.

Multiplication Example:

Step One: 21=-7n

This is your equation that you are trying to solve.

Step Two: 21/-7=-7n/-7

You need to divide both sides by -7 so that you get the variable alone and then on the other side of the equal sign will be you answer once you simplified.

Step Three: -3=n

Subtraction Example:

Step One: -15+n=-9

Step Two: -15+15+n=-9+15

Add positive 15 to both sides of the equal sign so that the -15 on the side with the variable will cancel out and the simplified answer will be on the other side of the equation.

Step Three: n=6

Simplified answer.

Steps to solve the equations:

Step One:

First you need to identify the variable.

Step Two:

Then you need to figure out what kind of operation the problem is showing.

Step Three:

Use the OPPOSITE  operation on both sides of your equal sign so that you can solve the equation.
