History of Judaism 

Judaism is one of the oldest monotheistic religions. Monotheistic means to believe in only one God. It was founded about 3500 years ago. Judaism was founded by Abraham. This religion started in Canaan. he Western Wall of the ancient temple remains. This is where the tablets that Moses brought down from Mt. Sinai with the ten commandments were stored in the Ark of the Covenant. It is the smallest religion worshiped in the world. The sacred texts or books in the Judaism religion include the Torah (Old Testament), Nevi’im (prophets), Ketuvim (writings) and the Talmud which provides instructions to follow the Jewish religion.

History of Hinduism

Hinduism started about 4000 years ago. There was no specific founder of the religion. Hiduism also had no orgin. The Ganges River is a very sacred place to Hindus.They worshiped at their homes, temples and mandirs The Hindu sacred texts included the Vedas, Upanishads, Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita, and Ramayana.  Hinduism is polytheistic, which means they believed in many gods included weather gods and gods of the sea's. Hinduism is the oldest known religion. 



This is the David Star. It is the best known symbol of the Judiac religion. It was named after the legend that King David had a star on his shield. It is new to the Jewish faith because it only became popular 200 years ago.

This is the Chai symbol. It means living. Some say it refers to the Living God but others think it represents Judaism's importanceof life.

This is the Menorah. It is a candle holder that can hold 7 candles. It is supposed to represent "a light unto the nations". 

This is the Swastika.It holds a great religous signifigance. The word swastika comes from Sanskrit, an ancient indian language that means ''being happy.''

The Om is one of the most important to the Hinduism religion. The Om is composed of Sanskrit letters. It is made up of three sounds, which represent triads: the three worlds of the earth, atmosphere and heaven. Those are the main Hindu Gods.

This is the Lotus Flower symbol. In the Hinduism religion this flower means beauty.


Marriage is one rites of passages. For marriage in the Hinduism religion the parents pick the partner but they want their children to be happy with the person they choose. They are increasing the exceptions.  The wedding the most colorful ceremonies. The legal age for getting married is 18 for girls and 21 for guys. Even though is has an age for getting married some people get married earlier. This is so important because it bonds them together and also their union is sanctified. 

Rites of Passages and Ceremonies.

One Judaism ceremony some people celebrate is a bar mitzvah. A bar mitzvah is for boys at the age of 13 and a bat mitzvah is for girls at the age of 12.  This celebration is to the show they are responsible for observing the commandments. This is one of the most important times for a jewish boy or girl.

Judaism and Hinduism Holiday's

Diwali is just one of holidays Hindu people celebrate. When the kids go to sleep a magical creature named Lakshmi comes and leaves presents and candies. Lakshmi is the goddess of prosperity. Diwali falls in October or November. The holiday is celebrated to grant a wish. To grant a wish you have to put a dipa lamp and put it in a waterway. If the lamp reaches the other side of the river or creek, your wish will be granted. Some traditions are to leave food and gifts for the Lakshmi to enjoy. In return she gives you gifts.

One holiday Jewish people celebrate is Hanukkah. The holiday is celebrated in November or December. I It is celebrated for 8 days. It is celebrated to remember the time when the oil was only supposed to last 3 days but actually lasted 8 days. Kids get presents and also play games such as spinning th dreidel. They also light the menorah each night of Hanukkah.

Judaism Current Events

One major current event that took a big part in the Judaism faith was the Pope visited Israel and held a mass on mount Zion. This is important to the Jewish faith because it opened up ancient rivalries between the Christian, Jews, and Muslims. This caused a problem because the Pope wants more Christian access to the room which they believe held the last supper. The Orthodox Jews are upset that the Pope is trying to have more time on Mount Zion. The Pope's visit to Mount Zion while for a good cause created some bad feelings with the Orthodox Jews.
