At Alphington Grammar School we prioritise the health and wellbeing of your child while ensuring that every student experiences success. Success means different things to different people. For us the success of your child is measured by their individual achievements; by knowing that they are doing the very best that they can. Your child is far more than just a number to us. They are an individual with a developing sense of self, seeking to be engaged in their learning journey and provided with opportunities across a range of disciplines that will challenge and excite them. We are here to give that to them in a safe, inclusive and culturally rich environment. It is impossible to predict the full suite of skills and proficiencies required for the world our children are helping to shape. We are dedicated to providing them with the skills of lifelong learning, resilience and habits of mind that will prepare them for the myriad of opportunities that will come their way. We are not simply in the job of educating children. We are committed to preparing future adults who excel in their chosen path and are able to navigate and contribute to the world they encounter with purpose, creativity, integrity, respect and compassion. Early Learning CentreWith at least 13 years of schooling ahead of them, it is vital to us that your child begins their formal educational journey in a relaxed, warm and fun environment. We want them coming to school excited about learning, trying new things and engaging with the classroom. Our Early Learning Centre (ELC) environment will help them gradually transition into the more structured world of formal education. Our highly experienced Early Childhood educators incorporate play-based education inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach, which is centered around the idea that a child who is happy will learn best. Our core values of Being, Belonging, and Becoming ensure that we promote the development of positive qualities needed for well-rounded children. The combination of indoor and outdoor learning spaces provide your child with a multitude of learning opportunities in a safe, friendly and creative environment. Being part of a larger school means that your child will have access to the learning opportunities that come from specialist staff in Art, Sport, Music and Language, as well as additional opportunities such as our Bush Adventure, Yoga, Science and Greek Immersion programs. ELC students are given opportunities to explore, identify, negotiate, take risks and create meaning from the world around them. We know that learning these skills now will help them to adapt more easily to the structured environment of the preparatory years and beyond. The ELC program is designed to assist your child in developing learning dispositions such as curiosity, persistence, confidence and resilience as well as facilitating their social and emotional development. The development of these skills, along with a comprehensive transition program for the four year old group, ensures that your child is ready to confidently move on to Primary School by the end of their time in the ELC. 9Alphington Grammar School’s ELC is a nurturing and supportive environment where three and four year olds can grow, develop their love of learning, and foster their natural curiosity.

The Secondary YearsThe Secondary Years at Alphington Grammar School offer a rich and stimulating curriculum, which aims to enable all students to fulfil their true potential and achieve personal excellence. The Secondary School curriculum is tailored to student needs, ensuring students are supported and challenged. Our curriculum is broad in scope, yet underpinned by the knowledge that a good Secondary education requires a deep understanding of literacy and numeracy. To this end, we dedicate substantial curriculum time to the core domains of Mathematics, English, Science, and the Humanities. To compliment our curriculum and co-curricular offerings, The School also provides a rich selection of health and wellbeing programs to support the social and emotional growth of our students. The strong sense of community that permeates through our staff, students and families underpins the success our students experience throughout their educational journey. We understand that every student has different strengths, passions, and individual learning styles. To facilitate a deeper level of learning, our Learning Support Team deploy in-class assistance and one-on-one withdrawal programs for students who need extra scaffolding and direct instruction. In addition to ‘in-class’ extension work, we also run a bespoke program for our advanced learners: The ALPHA Initiative. Students gain fundamental levels of critical, creative, and independent thinking skills through tailored learning programs. They are equipped with the communication and collaborative skills required for the workplace and the diverse pathways our students may take. Our experienced VCE teachers focus on ensuring our students are prepared for the rigours of their final years of schooling. Equally important is their role in helping our students develop skills such as time management and critical thinking that will enable them to successfully navigate their future. Every Year 12 student receives mentoring on a one on-one basis, where their global assessments-skill-based targets, university pathways, and general wellbeing are explored. A targeted careers education program across the Secondary School helps prepare students for their chosen career path and life beyond school.13
