The Kirpilä ArtCollection is a unique art museum thatpresents a passionate art lover’s collectionand provides a glimpse of the life of well-to-do Helsinkians in the second half of thetwentieth century. Located in a formerprivate home on Pohjoinen Hesperiankatu inHelsinki, the Kirpilä Art Collection is a uniqueart museum that presents a passionate art lover’s collection and provides a glimpseof the life of well-to-do Helsinkians inthe second half of the twentiethcentury. The museum is housed in theapartment that was the home of therheumatologist Juhani Kirpilä (1931–1988)and his partner, the antiques dealer Karl(Kalle) Rosenqvist, between 1979 and1988. It covers nearly 350 square meterson the top floor of a functionalist housein the district of Töölö.

The Tavern kitchencreates a delicious Finnish menu out of puredomestic ingredients flavored with thedelicacies of the season. Local food isnaturally the cornerstone of the Tavern cuisine.The Sokeri-Jussi Tavern is not just a restaurantamong others, but an experience in itself. It is aplace that stands out because of itsindividuality.

Day Four cont’dAfter our delicious lunch, we will enjoy a leisurely walkback to the hotel, via the beautiful sea view and MarketPlace. Now it’s free time in Oulu. Perhaps you’d like toself-explore the shops, purchase some goodies, orcatch up on your email. But we are not done yet!This is one of my favorites! We are off to a Chocolateworkshop experience where we will each make our ownhandmade chocolates. Under the guidance of ourMaster of Chocolate, Riikka, we will learn how tohandle and temper chocolate and make some deliciousfillings. Yum Yum!!!Finishing up the day it is back to the hotel for alight supper and a good sleep.

Day FiveIt’s a new day in Oulu! Where are we going today?After breakfast, enjoy a short scenic ride to HailuotoIsland. The island Hailuoto is a cozy mix of wild nature,artisan expertise, and original local culture. Located off Oulu, Hailuoto is Finland's third largestisland. Fishermen were the first settlers of HailuotoIsland by the 12th century. On the western edge ofMarjaniemi Head, a small fishing village was formed.The small cabins built close together along narrowalleyways formed a sheltered unit against the seawinds. Old cabins ]have now been joined by newercabins. Nevertheless, the village retains the mood ofthe past.

DayFivecont’dThe Finnish Heritage Agency has designated the entireisland of Hailuoto as a nationally significant builtcultural environment. In terms of its pilotage andlighthouse operations, the Marjaniemi area is one of themost representative cultural environments in Finland. Marjaniemi Lighthouse has an interesting history. Theconstruction of the lighthouse was completed in 1871.We will learn a bit more about it’s past during our visit.Is anyone up for a climb? You can climb the stairs andvisit the Lighthouse. Climbing up those stairs gives youan idea of what it must have been like to work in thelighthouse, back in the day!The tower is brick masonry, and has 110 steps inside withno intermediate floors. There were two lighthousekeepers and a master until 1962 when the lighthousewas automated. A pilot station was built next to thetower, currently, the pilot station serves as a hotel.The lighthouse also houses a smallersector light that is used to guide vessels toand from the fishing harbor. Today thelighthouse also houses a webcam.

Day Five cont’dAfter all the walking, you must beready for a local lunch. RestaurantHaili, in Arctic Lighthouse hotel will beour host. And now something very special as weare off to visit with a local in theirhome to hear all about what it’s likeliving on this remote island in FinlandEnjoy a cup of coffee or tea and listenas tales unfold. Our visit to the island would not becomplete without stopping at theHailuoto Brewery and Handcraft Shopfor a bit of Beer tasting and shoppingfor local summer handcrafts.

Day Fivecont’dWe will return to Oulu on the ferry and have freetime to relax or wander at will before headingout for dinner. Location, tbd. Have you noticed the pictures of the fatpoliceman statue? He’s pretty famous! The fatpoliceman is a symbol of the small town of Oulu.The bronze statue was built in 1987 and standson the market square. It was made by KaarloMikkonen in honor of the bobbies that used topolice the marketplace.

Day SixLadies, it’s time to move again. Enjoy yourbreakfast and a relaxing morning before wehead out at 11 am to travel even farthernorth, to Iso-Syöte. Sit back and relax toenjoy a scenic two-hour drive to Laplandcountry! Our first destination is the new andstunning Arctic Hilltop Boutique Hotel Iso-Syöte*. It stands grandly on a hilltop in oneof the snowiest areas of Finland next to apeaceful national park. We will have lunch atthe panoramic Hilltop Restaurant. You willhave to tear yourself away from the view toeat! Be sure your camera and phones arecharged so you can take lots of pictures.*or like hotel

Iso-Syöte is Finland’s Southernmost fell. Iso-Syöte is surrounded by the breathtakinglybeautiful Syöte National Park, where you canenjoy skiing, cycling, snowshoeing, or just thefantastic views! Spot the northern lightsdancing in the sky from autumn to earlyspring. Autumn is also a time for colors, inIso-Syöte the color of the ground changesfrom green to shades of red, yellow, andorange in August and September. Duringmid-winter, you can enjoy magnificentcandlestick trees. The snow keeps fallingand in the spring the sun comes up and thedays stretch longer. Iso-Syöte During the summer the sun doesn't setand the National Park blooms withlife. Along the way, you’re also very likelyto encounter animals like hares andreindeer, and if you move carefully,you might also see owls!

Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region known for its vast subarcticwilderness, ski resorts, and natural phenomena, including the midnight sun and the Northern Lights. Iso-Syote is the southernmost fell in Finland and is adjacent to the Syote National Park.Hotel Iso Syote is not just a hotel, but a Safari-hotel! Situated on the top of a hill, there is a stunningpanoramic view over the surrounding forests, lakes, and nature areas, no matter where you are on theproperty. The Iso Syote is a great place to explore, whether by snowmobile, husky sled, reindeer rides,snowshoe, or skiing. The hotel offers a variety of programs for guests to participate in, from snowshoehikes to ice-fishing excursions! Activities in the summertime include river rafting and Nordic walkingtours. There are 20 rooms at the Iso Syote Hotel, all with excellent views of the surrounding forest andvalleys. By the way, the hotel suffered a massive loss through a fire in 2018. The owners lost everything.The hotel underwent a rebuild. It’s quite a testament to their passion and will to rise from the ashes.

Day Sixcont’dAfter our lunch, we are off for a guidedNordic walking tour. Nordic walking finds itsorigin here in Finland and has become moreand more popular in Europe. Maybe youhave experienced it yourself…? NordicWalking through the natural scenery of Syötewith is an experience you really should try toenjoying the splendid and unspoiled natureand flora and fauna all around you. Returning to our hotel, how about a little spatime at the Arctic Spa pools and sauna! Rejuvenated, we will have a leisurely dinnerat the Hilltop Restaurant and raise a toast tothe evening views. Bring those cameras!

Day SevenIt is going to be a magical day in Syote! Let’sspend the day at Syötteen Eräpalvelut farm.The Husky Farm!We will have a relaxing walk in the forestand if we get lucky we may find some berriesor some mushrooms to pick, while enjoyingthe fresh air. After our walk in the forest, wecan make part of our lunch together fromthe berries and mushrooms that we’ve found.After lunch, we will meet the huskies andhear all about the northern life in the middleof nature. You will hear the story of life in NorthernFinland (from owners Jonna and Janne).

Day Sevencont’dReturning to the hotel it’s an afternoon ofyour choice: leisure, rest, relaxation, or enjoythe outdoors.This evening we will have a short transfer to Hanhilampi hut to experience something veryunique, well, at least for us! The Lappish-style Kota hut, in the middle of thewilderness, offers the perfect setting for anunforgettable dinner. The scents of theblazing campfire and the delicious flavors ofthe game meals guarantee you a memorabledinner.You can also try out a traditional Finnishsmoke sauna and take a swim in the darkwaters of Lake Hanhilampi. In the winter,candles light your way through the woodsfrom the kota hut to the sauna and the lake,where you can take a refreshing plunge into thelake through a hole in the ice. EEK!! Luckily thatwill not be us! The mystique of an authentic Finnish smokesauna and hut Lappish dinner will top off a verymemorable day and a joyful evening.

DayEightNorth, Ladies, we are still heading north! Weare traveling to Rovaniemi in Lapland. We willalso have the opportunity to cross into theArtic Circle while at Santa’s real Christmasvillage. It’s going to be qite a magical day! Rovaniemi is a region up in the Arctic, and thenature there is most vulnerable to theinfluences of climate change. Yes, they havevery snowy winters but also warm summers.Sustainability is a state of mind and a way oflife. There is a strong focus on honoringnature and all of its miracles. The City ofRovaniemi is dedicated to protecting theunique Arctic Capital, its nature, and itspeople – locals, and visitors. It is veryadmirable.

DayEightcont’dWe are going to start things off right bymeeting ‘the man in red’, the head honcho, theREAL Santa Clause. Located in the SantaClaus Village at the Arctic Circle, the SantaClaus office is the official place to meet SantaClaus. Be sure to write out your wish list or aheartfelt thank you as Santa Claus is happy toreceive letters, or drawings when you meet. Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland situatedright on the Arctic Circle, which makes thetown a gateway to the Arctic. The region northof the Arctic Circle is simply called the Arctic.In the Arctic, there are bigger cities thanRovaniemi, but none in direct proximity to theArctic Circle. In Rovaniemi, the Arctic Circleruns through Santa Claus Village, located eight kilometers north of the city center, where it is clearly marked. The Arctic Circleis a circle of latitude that runs 66°33′45.9″north of the Equator. It marks thesouthernmost latitude where the sun can staycontinuously below or above the horizon for24 hours – these phenomena are known asthe Midnight Sun in the summer and the PolarNight (“Kaamos”) in the winter..

Explore the secret of reindeer antlerworking and its enchanting history. You willalso have an opportunity to accumulate yourown handicraft skills supported byprofessional handicraft artisans. And have acup of coffee to boot! At the end of thevisit, you´ll have your very own self-madehomecoming gift keepake of your visitation.
