Values and ResilienceCarlos Illingworth is Senior Director of Community Relationsat the Tournament of Roses, which has produced America’sNew Year Celebration, bringing the traditions of the RoseParade and Rose Bowl Game to Pasadena and the world forover 130 years. In this role, he leads the association’scommitment to community relations and serves as ExecutiveDirector of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Foundation.Illingworth brings 20 years of experience to the Tournament ofRoses, having most recently served as Director of Public Affairsand Communications at Coca-Cola North America, where herepresented the beverage company in California and Nevada,overseeing stakeholder relations, government affairs,communications, and local community giving. Prior to Coca-Cola, he worked for the California State Legislature beforeleading external affairs for Albertsons, Vons, and Pavilionsacross Central and Southern California and Nevada. A nativeof Los Angeles, Illingworth grew up in the San Gabriel Valleyand received a B.A. in Communication from Cal State L.A.,where he was twice elected student body president. A pastpresident of the Cal State L.A. Alumni Association and currentmember of the President’s Council, Illingworth received CalState L.A.’s 2015 Golden Eagle Award, which acknowledges theoutstanding achievements of one graduate of the past decade.Ashley Aragón is a Public Affairs Specialist integratingprofessional communication expertise with a background ineducation. In her current role, she designs strategiccommunication initiatives to promote educational equity fornearly two million students across 80 school districts in LosAngeles County. Her work focuses on accessible messaging,amplifying student success narratives, and building partnershipsbetween schools and their diverse communities. With over eightyears of experience as an educator, Aragón has taught variouscourses that bridge communication theory and professionalpractice. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts inCommunication Studies from Cal State L.A.Juan Garcia is the Public Information Director and ActingDirector of Marketing for the City of Los Angeles Departmentof Cultural Affairs. Mr. Garcia has worked for the City of LosAngeles for over twenty years, providing communications for theLos Angeles Police Commission and the Los Angeles CityEmployees’ Retirement System, as well as social marketing forthe Los Angeles County Department of Health. Garcia hasexperience working in the private sector for Universal PicturesMarketing, Golden West Broadcasters, and Propaganda Films.He received a Bachelor of Arts from California State Universityof Los Angeles and a Master of Arts from WoodburyUniversity. Garcia owned and managed a community art galleryand has curated visual art exhibitions with art institutions,private galleries, and public art projects.Krystal Finkel earned her bachelor’s degree in 2018 afterreturning to school following a successful career in the fashionindustry. She has held various leadership positions over the last15 years and has been working at Universal Studios Hollywoodfor the last five years, serving in her current role as Director ofDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion for the last three years. She ispassionate about making the workplace an environment wherepeople feel supported and are encouraged to be their authenticselves. In addition, since 2018 she has served on the board ofdirectors of Jovenes Inc., a nonprofit that helps youthexperiencing homelessness. An opportunity for students to engage with industryprofessionals who got their start right here at Cal State LA.It highlights the diverse opportunities and values at the heartof communication careers. We aim to celebrate communication opportunities andprovide students with valuable insights and resources for theirfuture careers through our engaging panel discussion andnetworking with industry professionals.
