Message Proclamation Toolkit National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day Sept. 19, 2025 National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day The United States Senate and House of Representatives introduced a resolution declaring Sept. 19 as National Stillbirth Prevention Day. It is a way to honor the tens of thousands of American families who lose a baby to stillbirth every year and resolve to do all it can to prevent the tragedy of stillbirth from happening to more families. Steps to Request a Proclamation for National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day 1. Identify what body of government you want to designate Sept. 19 as National Stillbirth Prevention & Awareness Day. Ex: your town, your county, your city or your state. 2. Find their contact information (email, phone, website form). You can do this by doing a simple Google search. (Ex: mayor of ___________ contact information) 3. Reach out to make an official request via email (some offices may have a website form for this instead) using our sample email. This email also includes a link to the sample text of the proclamation if you wish to also send it as an attachment instead. 4. If you do not receive a response, follow up via email or phone after a few weeks have passed. 5. Depending on the office, you may ask to have the proclamation mailed, emailed or held in the office for your pickup. 6. We would also love for you to complete this easy form so we can properly recognize your efforts and the collective efforts of stillbirth prevention advocates around the country. 2025 Federal Stillbirth Legislation SHINE for Autumn Act The Stillbirth Health Improvement and Education (SHINE) for Autumn Act is a federal piece of legislation that focuses on preventing stillbirths through enhanced data collection, research, education, and awareness and is the beginning of a longer-term solution to reducing stillbirth rates. The Stillbirth Prevention Act provides both clarity and a vital call to action from Congress to state health departments across the country that they can and should use a portion of the existing $2.6 billion of Title V Block Grant funding to prevent stillbirth. This law ensures states understand the need to address the public health crisis of stillbirth, which impacts more than 21,000 families in the U.S. every single year.
