Message from the ESDAC ChairDear Fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors & Friends:During April we commemorated EARTH DAY. Thank you to everyone who participated. The winners for the PUBLIX GIFT CARE contest are noted on page 6. Everyone is a winner, as wehelped clean up our environment and should feel a sense of accomplishment. As we go forward please remember that every day is really an EARTH DAY. So do not let down your guard. In May we will celebrate World Bee Day on May 20th. Pollinators are key to our survival on the planet EARTH. Most of the food we eat is thanks for the efforts of so many pollinators. Unfortunately, pollinator populations are declining dramatically. We need to support them. Please take the some time this month and plant some . pollinator bushes in your yard or balcony. You may be lucky enough to have some beautiful butterflies show up in your home. I also want to remind the Clubs of Governor Gobbi’s Environmental Award and Citations. Please submit your activities by May 30thand include in that listing your plans for June. I look forward to seeing your Club’s involvement is the Rotary’s Seventh Area of Focus, Supporting the Environment. Thanks for your support and I look forward to hearing from you.Robert H. Rotary Club of Coconut Grove cleaned up Clarington Island on Saturday, March 30th.4
Two of the members of the RC of Hialeah-Miami Springs are on the City Council, this one of their local projects. Gines Lleonart, Carlos Gueits and Tom Webb spoke to me about this project and now it is happening. Every City should do the same.5
PUBLIX GIFT CARD WINNERSThe winners of the Publix Gift Card contest for Earth Day are: Darshana Jodetti for her fruit tree planting efforts, Elizabeth Tran making outfits out of discarded materials (the outfit below was made from a flight ticket, Amazon packaging, fruit packages, trial mix boxes and a trash bag), and Hugo Montaudon for his Trashercise collection.6
Thank you to the Clubs across the District that participated with Baynanza, and other EARTH DAY Activities. Actually every day should be an EARTH DAY. We need to work together to address so many issues7

to Monument Island where they spent a few hours of camaraderie and fun cleaning up the island. Rotary Clubs of Miami Brickell, Miami Airport and Coral Gables all took a boat9
Pinecrest Rotary Club worked in the mangroves of Chapman Field, getting stuck in the mud and fighting the mosquitoes. It’s amazingly surprising to find many plastic bottle caps, but where all of the bottles? The Baynanza logo that was printed on all of the T-Shirts that were given away was designed by Melissa Coro of Miami Sunset SHS10
FIU ROTARACT CLUB worked at the EAST GREYNOLDS PARK. Most of the these Rotaractors are medical students. Question: Are there any male Rotaractors in this Club?11
The Weston Rotary Club organized a cleanup at Dania Beach. Rotarians from Sunrise & Cypress Creek also participated. 12
Key Biscayne Club cleaned up their island for Bayanza. The Mayor of their town showed up. He is in the photo to the right. Everyone chipped in and they even cleanup the Mangrove area. In solidarity to nature the photo of Rotarians surrounding a tree in below. 13
Rotarians from the Weston Club helped towards the City goal of Wildlife Habitat Community Certification by distributing8,500 flyers of the City of Weston Educational Outreach program to all of the public and private elementary school in the area. Activity coordinated by the Environmental Action Grp14
Miami Airport Club cleaned up a park on April 20th. Mayor Daniella showed up. 15
Miami Airport Club planted fruit trees at the Central Elementary School in Plantation as part of their EARTH DAY celebration.16
Florida climate is perfect for so many invasive plants and animals. Just recently I found a unique lizard. It’s known as a rainbow agamid, aka Peter’s Rock agamid, native to sub-Saharan Africa. We are being overwhelmed by invasive species. If you have an invasive pet at home, please do not let them go. If you want to surrender your exotic pet, please call Exotic Species Hotline: 888-Ive-Got1 (483-4681). 17
Coming up this June 1stwill be the 7thannual Worldwide Action Day. Please plan to participate and send me photos. 18
