Message from the ESDAC ChairDear Fellow Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors & Friends:During March we commemorated RECYCLING DAY, and we can continue our recycling efforts in April. On April 22ndwe will commemorate EARTH DAY. There are activities that you may participate on a Club basis. We have included some suggestions in this bulletin. There are also many projects you can do our your own. To recognize individual activities and creativity, we will have three PUBLIX GIFT CARDS for those who conduct the most creative EARTH DAY projects. Rules as simple. Just email me a photo of your EARTH DAY project and a “qualified” jury will select the most creative ideas. There will be three gift cards to be presented to the winners. Even if you do not win, it will be fun. We will do our best to include all of the photo submissions in our next bulletin. So get going and send in your photos.I also want to remind the Clubs of Governor Gobbi’s Environmental Award and Citations. I look forward to seeing your Club’s involvement is the Rotary’s Seventh Area of Focus, Supporting the Environment. Thanks for your support and I look forward to hearing from you.Robert H. PROTEST AGAINST PLASTIC POLLUTION IN THE UKThe plastic ball in the photo below washed up on a British beach. It floated across the Atlantic and brought non-native, invasive barnacles to the shore12

Look at all of the plastic and aluminum containers that were picked up in a one mile walk The aluminum cans and other litter was picked up. Note how some plastic bottles seems to be ripped. That happens because the gardeners just mow over these plastic bottle and cut them to pieces. 14Here are the plastic and aluminum containers in these two bags.
UNUSUAL “GREEN” HUMORCarbon-credits have not been very successful in India. So now they have started a Green Credits Programme. Even with this program, the Indian Government has not recognized the different crucial ecosystems, such as wetlands, grasslands, scrublands and other distinct ecosystems. The cartoon on the right, pokes fun at environmentalists who complain about the “negative” effects of farms and prefer to see commercial windmills, that are “ugly” and have killed birds. Everything seems to have a “Ying” and a “Yang”15
