Blessed Trinity Cares Blessed Trinity College FIRST CHOICE FOR POST 16 COURSES 2021 2022 Student Leadership Team Prefects are chosen from Sixth Form based on their maturity work ethic and contribution to school life From within the Prefects in Year 14 a Head Boy Head Girl Deputy Head Boy and Deputy Head Girl are selected They are significant role models for others and play a major part in school events Head Boy Ryan McCarthy I applied for the role of Head Boy as I felt it gave me the opportunity to be a role model to younger students throughout the college and to also give back to the school that has shaped me into the young man I am today My own personal journey through my time at Blessed Trinity College is something I am immensely proud of I fondly remember being an extremely shy young boy in year 8 with few friends as I was the only boy from my primary school to attend the school however with the support and care that the staff gave me I was able to flourish and grow into the adventurous character I am today The confidence I have gained throughout my time here has propelled my public speaking abilities to a new level I have spoken at assemblies I have spoken to charities and within the college I am able to speak to the younger students with a lot less nerves The role of Head Boy has been a tremendously rewarding one as it has allowed me to grow as a person student and as a leader all of which were things I strived Prefects to do in my final two years at post 16 I look forward to the many more fantastic opportunities this role provides me and has provided me with thus far I am fortunate enough to be surrounded by a fantastic Student Leadership team and a brilliant Post 16 support team In my time as Head Boy and in Post 16 the school motto of Achieving Excellence Together has been at a centre point throughout I will forever hold our schools core values close to me as I find they are not only values for just our school life but they are values we can hold and live by whilst we go onto our individual paths in the future Senior Prefects and Prefects fulfil a valuable role in school as a link between the students and staff by modelling expected standards of conduct and in promoting the school to the local community The roles significantly enhance a student s CV and are particularly sought after by Universities third level institutions and employers Students have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills through being a Mentor or involvement with the Student Council Mentoring Sixth Form students have the opportunity to support and mentor Junior School students on a regular basis through a variety of activities Mentoring training is facilitated through the enhancement programme for these students Head Girl Aoife Major I decided to apply for the Head Girl role in Blessed Trinity College as I have always enjoyed being an advocate for the school I felt that it would give me the opportunity to develop and embrace new skills and qualities such as confidence leadership and independence After being in lockdown all summer I decided to push myself to apply for the head girl position as it was going to be my final year in school and I wanted to give back to the school community that helped shape me into the person I am today Since becoming head girl my confidence has improved greatly and I take pride in being a positive role model for the students The responsibilities I have had as Head Girl include being the head of the student leadership team planning fundraising events public speaking and getting the chance to represent the school on BBC news I am so honoured to be the head girl of such a wonderful school full of amazing staff who genuinely care about all their students and their education I enjoy helping other students whether its someone who needs help with school work or if they simply just need someone to talk to and this is what I love most about my role I will take all the skills and qualities that this role has helped me achieve with me when I attend university and in my future career and I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to be the Head Girl of BTC 08 09

Blessed Trinity College FIRST CHOICE FOR POST 16 COURSES 2021 2022 Our Careers Education Information Guidance and Vocational Opportunities Blessed Trinity College has an established CEIAG programme across all key stages which is designed to equip students with the skills and experience needed to make sound career choices and to progress to third level education or the world of work There is a significant involvement of local businesses and academic institutions which enhance the CEIAG programme throughout the key stages Additionally our pupils will have opportunities to enhance their academic and practical skills through training programmes offered by Queen s University Pathway Programme and Scholars Programme CEIAG follows a timetabled process throughout Sixth Form and support is provided for students to make applications to university through the UCAS process and applications for Foundation Degrees at local FE colleges as well as help with filling in applications for employment and apprenticeship programmes In addition students are kept up to date with local labour market information and any job course apprenticeship or work experience opportunities that come into school Added to this is a series of visiting external speakers university visits and careers fairs all of which add up to a comprehensive support package Work Experience As competition for jobs and places at universities increases it is becoming even more important that students participate in extra curricular activities volunteering fundraising and or community work both inside and outside of school During their time in Post 16 students will be offered numerous opportunities to get involved in voluntary community charity work Students interested in pursuing a health caring role must ensure they gain plenty of volunteering in a hospital care setting or other relevant work experience At Blessed Trinity we have built strong links with local businesses schools and outside agencies that provide us with ongoing assistance in facilitating the development of our students in Sixth Form Students are offered the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars in a range of career areas and every student will undertake at least one work experience in Year 13 Our bespoke Step Up programmes offer one day per week in an appropriate work or training placement to further develop their employability and experience Blessed Trinity Cares International Dimension The Blessed Trinity Post 16 Team consider school expeditions abroad far more than just a learning experience outside the classroom The Post 16 Team believe that the importance of school trips in giving students the chance to character build and develop their resilience as well as grow in confidence and adapt to different social situations is not to be underestimated Connections Youth and BTC teamed up to bring a number of our Year 13 students to South Africa Students were selected after an application and interview process Throughout the year students embarked on a Personal Development programme in preparation for their time in South Africa focussing on key aspects of leadership and team work This programme also allowed them to sample African culture in music dance and food as well as provide an opportunity to increase their knowledge of the history of South Africa The trip was divided into two distinct parts working at the Denis Hurley Centre a homeless shelter in Durban providing two meals a day with breakfast and lunch for over 300 homeless people Students helped prepare and serve the food clean and clear up and wash dishes The second part of the trip involved working in a Zulu village Isithumba in the Valley of a Thousand Hills preparing a garden area that would be used to grow vegetables for the village Students have all said they thoroughly enjoyed the trip They learnt many new skills and developed close friendships as a result of the experience Many departments now have regular trips as part of their curriculum Auschwitz Religion and History Depts annual trip West End in London Performing Arts Dept Bi annual ski trip all year groups Manchester United home ground at Old Trafford PE Dept Causeway Coast and Glens Geography Dept Our Work Placement Partners include Local Nursery Schools Primary Schools Merchant Hotel Europa Hotel Grand Central Hotel Stormont Hotel Bespoke Engineering Placements Students are carefully prepared for work experience and employers provide a report to the school on the student s progress Since universities place a lot of emphasis on the value of relevant work experience it forms an important part of our CEIAG programme Students are encouraged to reflect on their experiences whilst on placement and examine their career choice in light of their work experiences in a career area 12 13
